I've been wondering if there is some kind of get together for people on the spectrum at a coffeeshop in the Twin Cities (Minnesota, USA). The Autism Society of MN has a monthly meeting at their offices, but I am looking for something like meeting for coffee or something else. Thanks.

I did a quick search and found this:
https://www.meetup.com/MN-Autism-Friends-Unite/

From its description, it looks like it's probably fairly similar to a group that I am a member of in my area.

Note that I am not from Minnesota, and know nothing about this group beyond what is described on Meetup. It may or may not actually be any good.

If there isn't, I'll bet you could start one. The tough thing would be administration. You'd have to commit to being there every scheduled time for a long time. Some days, nobody would show up. That's because we're autistic! But persisting might make it a real thing, as would publicity.

My daughter and I went to a monthly autism support group in our city. It was like the 3rd Wednesday of every month, but in November, somebody noticed it would be the day before Thanksgiving, so the group on the spur of the moment decided to change it that month to the second Wednesday. I said "I hope you will mention this on the website!" They said they would, but it didn't happen. I didn't go to the rescheduled November meeting; my daughter did, and attendance was very low, so the few that showed up decided to reschedule it to the fourth Wednesday of November. Again, though, it wasn't really publicized.

You can't do that kind of organizational irrationality if you want a group to get established! Probably the reason this thing fell apart (for November anyway) was the fact it was all autistics making decisions and not following through on details. My daughter still goes to the group and finds it valuable socially, but I won't be back. I can't deal with that kind of thing.

Just throw your hat like Mary Tyler Moore did. You would meet people for sure.

I've been thinking of starting a group in my area, as there really isn't anything not geared towards children. I just don't know if I have the time or the energy, or the social skills, to organize and carry it out.
