I'm sick of neurotypical people and want to hangout with autistic people and find my community. I moved to arizona like 8 months ago and have been living in a treatment place with like 20 other guys who are all neurotypical. I mess up socially a lot and get a lot of feeling statements about it. I feel like the people there just tolerate me and dont see me as an equal. Some people say they like me but doesn't seem like they like me enough to like hangout with me or see me as a confidant. I am jealous of the people who still get letters from past clients who said they liked me but never call for me or write me letters. I feel left out. They let me talk in conversations but when it comes to one on one I feel left out. I have one friend but I feel like he doesnt talk to me about everything. I have this feeling and I've seen it with my family where people dont talk to me about certain things, and talk to others about it and makes me feel sad. I feel like what am I doing wrong socially and otherwise to have people not really come to me to talk or want to hangout.
I just want to hangout with other autistics where I can be myself and not have to worry about social skills or put on a front. This town I moved to doesnt have a big autism community like in Michigan where I was living and I miss that so much.

WP would seem like a good place to hang out.

But, don't think too badly of Allistics. They can't help it.

As individuals, I don't care what their brain wiring is as long as they treat me with respect and we get on OK, and I've known some good people who are very likely NT. They may have a few skills that I don't have, so we can complement each other.

But ASD types and NTs tend to have particular problems with each other. I've certainly seen that thing where a bunch of them relate to each other in a language I don't understand, and I've just felt like an embarrassment. I'd rather not witness that. I'd rather be alone. It's less lonely. But I don't see ASD types as particularly great just on account of their autism. They're all different, I relate to some, others get on my nerves.

I've often said that I have more disdain for mainstream society than for NTs as such. Objectively I suppose mainstreamers are just different rather than inferior, but somehow I can't help but look down on them. I feel a lot more mellow towards them than I used to do, but they're just not my tribe. A lot depends on whether or not I'm outnumbered. I do much better with one-on-one. Anything over 4 and the group's usually too big for me.

There is more of an autism community in the Phoenix AZ area than in most US cities. If you are anywhere near there, look up the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC). You don't have to live in the Phoenix area to contact them for advice. Living in a residential community with mostly neurotypical people would be a challenge for a lot of us. I hope you can find better options that are available to you.

Send me a message. I have HFA and ADHD. I feel like I am living your life. I have no friends. I was living in Phoenix until March but I am moving back to Arizona next week. Message me if you want to talk and go for coffee. We can make fun of NTs all day.
