When I was a kid, kids thoughts that all the time and I be even asked if I'm ret*d. Now I don't get that anymore or get told I am. But last year my boyfriend told me his parents and grand parents think I'm am mildly but sometimes I think he was just making it up because I have been told he was making fun of me, putting me down and my mom thinks he is a chronic liar and one of my online friends thought that too.

Yeppers! People call me ret*d all the time: home, work, grocery store, basically everywhere..pretty ignorant of people. They just don't know how cool we are! Plus, you should just ignore him. He's doing that because he has issues with himself, it's totally not about you. Just remember that!

At high school I was called ret*d a few times by other students. I took no notice, though, they were [and probably still are] complete idiots.

That used to happen to me, all the time, until just recently. I guess people know that I'm not damaged goods, now.

Even the most malicious people wouldn't call me this way seriously. On the opposite - I was always known as that girl who was weird but very clever and well-read in the same time.

No, but I've had people question me why I forgot something, or couldn't find something they felt was obvious. At work I would write down a list of to run a prodeure, and I'd get looks like "what are you, ret*d?"

When I was a child and had only recently entered into school, my teachers initially thought I was a genius.

Boy, did I set them straight on that one soon enough ;)

These days, people generally think I'm "a character" (Whatever that implies).

I get two responses . . . three, if you combine the first two into one . . .

Either I'm mentally challenged or I'm part of the mental elite.

Spokane-girl, I didn't have that problem in school. I was the smartest kid in the class and they knew it. Sure I was different, I think I was viewed as an eccentric genius. Now, I'm 6'3" and 250 lbs. and I think anyone who has comments, keeps it to theirself or speaks behind my back. Either way, I have plenty of problems and I don't need to hear about it. Sounds like your boyfriend is kinda weasly. Maybe you ought to look elsewhere. Just an observation. Best of wishes, jawbrodt.

People who know me never dare to say I'm ret*d (I've been treated as a genius during school and all), but random people who see me often ask my mom or my sisters if I have some mental delay.

People better not dare ask if I'm ret*d, or presume that I'm less of a person than I am, in any way.

I've never seriously been called or asked if I am a ret*d. Sure, a friend here and there will joke around if I do something ditzy, but that's pretty much what my whole peer group does to one another so it doesn't even matter.

If I do anything that would be considered "ret*d", people think I'm being sarcastic or just plain difficult. My parents used to always complain that I "looked for the hard way" to do things. Now, who is ret*d? 8O

My husband, aspie that he is, still forgets that I will answer rhetorical questions, not recognize others' sarcasm and not recognize $2 words in casual speech.

The parents there told all the kids about me and they started calling me a ret*d and teasing me and they would laugh and say "your autistic, your autistic"  . now i dont tell anyone about my aspergers.
