I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the experience of having someone you know in real life wander onto this site and identify you from your posts. To my knowledge, this has never happened to me, though my identity would be readily apparent to anyone who knew me if they read my posts here on WP.

Haven't had that happen yet, but I'm pretty sure I've talked about things that make me WAY too identifiable.

see, that's what worries me slightly. I want to be able to be here anonymously, but I also want to be at liberty to discuss whatever I find interesting, and doing so will make me identifiable to anyone who knows me in real life. I suppose I'm just being paranoid, since none of them would have a motivation to be on here, but still...

Maybe I'm naive, but I really don't worry about it. I mean, hooray for me for trying to be a better person through self-understanding.

Same here. Maybe I should go to a french or spanish site, where I would be less likely to be seen, or recognized.

Would do that if I knew any other language fluently. Mostly, in French, German, and Dutch I can count and ask where the restroom is!

Well, my BEST languages, other than English, are German and Danish, but all my coworkers, etc... know that.

My new BF googled my screenname while he was talking on the phone with me, and found a post from wrongplanet.... I had already told him about AS though... but he got banned from reading WP...

Why was your boyfriend banned from reading WP? :?

I think she means that she doesn't let him read it, on account of personal issues she has that he doesn't need to know about.

I often worry about the same thing. I'm pretty identifiable in my posts as well, or at least I think so. That's why I'm not revealing my name or exact location because it would make things too easy!

So that'why people are paranoid about telling their first names and their locatins. They just don't want to be found out by the locies. Well I don't have that fear. Who is going to know I'm Spokane girl. Sure I have said my age and location but I am not the only 22 yr old woman in the area. Sure they can suspect it's me if they read through all my posts because I sometimes talked about my job on here.

I don't know anyone [anymore] other than a few through here.

My name is Daniel, I'm from Brisbane, and I'm sure people can recognize me from my picture; there's a couple from high school who'd notice me, but that's it (even those don't want to interact with me anyway, nor I them).

I honestly wouldn't care... pretty much anyone I talk to knows about my AS.

But... it would still be very creepy and stalker-y.

I always wonder if anyone from real life has ever found me here. I think they'd recognize me pretty quickly. I mean, I might as well forget about all my "measures to conceal identity" and go ahead and use a pic of my face as my avatar and my city and neighborhood as my location. But, eh, that would still feel wrong on such a large and well-known site. Anyway . . .

To Anyone I Know in Real Life Who is Reading This:

Please send me a PM or somehow let me know you've found me here. I won't be offended and I'll never mention it again. I just want to know if anyone from my real life knows I have AS and/or has read all the personal stuff I've written here. That's all. Thank you kindly!

It's not so much that I care, or that I'm ashamed of AS or being on this site, it's just... I dunno, I would feel kind of creeped out if people I know were watching me online. I can assume they aren't, of course, but if they were I'd be somewhat concerned. I also just want to be anonymous, you know, to be able to discuss anything on here without worrying that it will haunt you in real life. That sense of anonymity helps to cut down on some social anxiety, and lets me be more open.

It doesn't bother me when talking out in the open; it feels like I'm talking to a crowd of people, and that doesn't bother me.

PMs are an entirely different thing.
