has anyone else gotten so used to feeling anxious that you don't think you suffer from anxiety nearly as much as you actually do? i get anxious quite often but when a psychologist asked if i get anxious at parties i said no because i just figured it was normal and didn't think of it as anxiety, just thought of it as me. as time progresses i'm realizing just how often i get anxious and it's kind of weird because i don't think people could tell because i seem to be pretty good at hiding my emotions and i might just appear distracted when i'm considerably anxious.

I experience the same thing. I'm pretty good at hiding my anxiety, because I've had a lot of practice. I can be at the big Christmas party that my clubhouse throws, every December and nobody would be able to tell that I'm anxious and waiting for my friends to arrive. I've gotten so used to it, that people don't notice it.

I learned to ignore my anxiety. Now I don't feel it anymore, but there still comes times when I will feel it like in relationships or when my boyfriend wants to do something unplanned.

i usually ignore it too, but sometimes it just gets too big for me to ignore it. there have been a couple of times when i just made up an excuse not to go to a party because of anxiety but generally i don't let it get to me.

Yes, very much so. When I first began seeing a therapist, I described my reactions to certain situations and she asked me if they were panic attacks. At the time, I said "Not really panic, more like high anxiety." But as I've come to be more aware of AS as an overall condition, I realize panic was probably the more accurate word for that level of stress, since I pretty much LIVE in a state of anxiety all the time. It's why I've been in constant stim mode for as many years as I can remember (and that's more years than I care to name).

I don't suffer from anxiety as much as just being uncomfortable is some situations. Problem is, NTs will pick up on the feeling, which in turn makes them uncomfortable. So inevitably, they tend to leave me alone. Sort of 'negative feedback' loop...;)

I get the "you look so uncomfortable!" so much that it's starting to work to my advantage. haha

Heh, the only positive side to anxiety.

RE: Getting used to anxiety,
I am constantly anxious, but only mildly in most situations. I've been this way for aslong as I can remember. I don't notice it as much as I used to, but am aware that it's anxiety.
The only time I notice it markedly is during an anxiety attack, which I have on occassion but not often.
