Myka Stauffer apologizes for rehoming autistic son and ‘letting down’ fans

Quote:
Myka Stauffer, the controversial YouTuber who gave up her adopted son Huxley, who has autism, has broken her silence and apologized “for all the hurt I’ve caused” in a lengthy Instagram post. Written on the Notes app of her iPhone, the 33-year-old influencer, who previously worked with the likes of Dreft laundry detergent and T.J. Maxx, says sorry “for letting down so many women who looked up to me as a mother.”

She blames the “rehoming” mess — which saw some internet vigilantes demand that money made off of content with Huxley, 5, be returned to him — on inadequate adoption prep.

“I received one day of watching at home online video training and gained my Hague adoption certification,” writes the Ohio-based Stauffer, who boasts 202,000 Instagram followers and 696,000 in YouTube to date. Although she went through an “accredited” agency, she adds, “For me, I needed more training.” She alluded to as much when she called out #reactiveattachmentdisorder in a now-deleted post online, a reference to a condition where young children have trouble forming bonds with their parents.

“I was naive, foolish, and arrogant” the statement reads, although the blond mom insists she doesn’t regret adopting Huxley from China about three years ago. “I’m still so glad Huxley is here and getting the help he needs.”

Although she touches on “incidents which occurred on a private level” and “trauma” experienced by Huxley, Stauffer doesn’t dive into details about what went down in her home. She insisted in the past that the decision was made with the help of medical professionals. “He needed more,” she said in a tearful video uploaded in May, which has since been taken down.

She does refute reports that she and her husband are under investigation by local authorities. “We are not under any type of investigation,” she writes, with a promise of more content to come. She also denies the self-published adoption was a ploy “to gain wealth.”

She apologizes then blames the adoption agency  .

So apparently the mom lied about "rehoming" her son. She instead dumped him off in foster care or didn't ask for help from a social worker?

Usually when families "rehome" an adoptive child, it is done through social services and that kid goes to another family where they are adopted. I have read these sort of stories when a family had to do this with their adoptive child because it was the only way they could get that kid help and that meant giving them up.

She and her husband have gone to ground as they know they have done the wrong thing. Imagine putting the child in foster care after making thousands of dollars in donations, buying luxury goods and washing your hands off the child.

It's basically what happens to children of drug addicts or criminals who are unable to look after their child anymore. Disgraceful.

They need to return every cent they stole from donations.

Well if druggies and criminals are giving up their kids like that, I think that is better for the child anyway. Should they grow up with a drug addict or be raised by a criminal? I feel the same way about abusers too, if they just toss out their child like trash and the child was given a nice place to live, good for the kid. Sarah Burleton's mother should have just left her with her aunt who was practically raising her at one point in her life until her mom came back and snatched her back. Sarah grew up being abused by her mother, mentally and psychically. Just imagine how much different her life would have been if her mom had just left her with her aunt raising her and never coming back?

I see there is no winning in this, people are mad when a kid is abused but yet they are still mad when the kid is just given to another person like they are a pet. I would rather have a kid be handed off like that than them get abused.

But if the parents did use the child for fame and to get free stuff, that is sickening and I agree. Then they practically tossed him out like trash when they didn't need him anymore or when he got too much for them to handle. They should not have adopted him in the first place.

agree with your interpretations. It's a no win situation for poor little Huxley,

There are unconfirmed reports on youtube that the police have received a tip that Huxley was starved prior to being offloaded to foster care. Because of the nature of the case the police have yet to publicly announce their findings. There is some likelihood she will be facing charges but the details are lacking.
