Hi, I wasnt sure where to put this post so I decided to go with the health board.
i was wondering if anyone else has the same aversion to the summer that I have.
I think it better to describe the symptoms more:
As the weather begins to get warmer, my mood begins to deflate greatly, during hot and sunny weather I can feel worse. Though this seems to mainly a seasonal thing.
I abhor the the sunlight due to the brightness, direct sunlight, make eyes extremely tired and eventually will start to cause headaches, the longer I stay out in it, the greater the pain so I tend to get out of the sun as fast as I can.
I feel like sunlight on a warm day is burning my skin even through my clothes and worse yet, because I dont really feel the cold I start to overheat in minutes until I'm consumed with anxiety until I get out of it.

I absolutely despise when the weather changes and I spend all my time, waiting for it to return to milder climates so that I'm comfortable again. Wheres that town that Twilight is set in. I think I'll move there instead. :)

Does anyone else experience this, how do you handle it? I hope better than I do. Hiding until dark like some vampire lol

I'm the same. I don't think it helps that I have an attic bedroom, seeing as heat rises and the Sun is beating down on it. I don't know how my cat can bear to go up there in the really hot weather.

I'm more likely to become depressed during the summer. A few years ago, when I didn't know how to better deal with it, I used to take my pocket fan into the cupboard, where it was dark, and sit in there. I try to refrain from doing that now, because I liked it in the cupboard so much that I would spend the whole day there because I knew I couldn't face the heat or the light. What I do now is try to stay hydrated, sit in front of the fan, and take cold showers.

I am almost exactly the same and unfortunately so is my coping mechanism. Maybe moving to a place that is overcast a good deal of the time is the answer.

Just the opposite. While I detest the summer weather, all the infernal heat and humidity, I do appreciate the sunlight because as the days get shorter, my moods become bleaker with every passing day, until I'm ready to eat a bullet by January and February. Seasonal Affective Disorder didn't bother me when I was younger and I think I'll always love a beautiful Autumn, but the winter darkness is an evil plague anymore that saps me of the will to live. :(

Just from the clips I've seen on chat shows, I'm guessing somewhere near Vancouver, BC where most of The X-Files was filmed.

I like autumn and winter and a little bit of spring. Missouri summers are hellish.

I hate summer. The humidity, the brightness. It doesn't help that I burn easily in sunlight,
not to mention mosquitoes, etc.

I was just over in Ireland and that was what I'd call a lovely summer, I'd imagine the UK to be very similar.

The brightness in summer is a problem for me, because its very intence which causes anxiety. I feel very good when there is light rain and the brightness is gone. I like the reflections from the water. I find winter can sometimes also be bright at certain times when its cold, that increases my anxiety. I always have the blinds closed at my house. It gets depressing tiring if its bright day after day or when going outside and trying to look normal when its hard to look ahead into the light.

I also noticed it stays light for a long time over there, however. Sunshine is a good thing from time to time but I did have trouble going to sleep when it was 9:00 and still light outside.

I don't mind summer as long as I'm not getting poison ivy, but I like autumn and winter because I feel like everyone else's mood is closer to mine :D

I don't like spring because that is when my allergies kick in and I get sick.

thanks guys for the info. Glad to see there are other like me out there. I read some obscure reference to similar symptoms in a book before and I couldnt remember which one. So I decided it would be better to get other peoples stories on this. Afterall why else would I join wrongplanet. Anyone else got any of their own symptoms for the hot weather? I'd like to hear everyones, since finding out about aspergers its become my "special Interest". :D

The hot weather does not actually bother me, just intence light at times, I dont think its part of my symtoms of asperger's syndrome as such, just sensitive eyes. The thing about summer thats difficult for me is that there are usually more people about when outside and its more busy then winter which causes anxiety. I get anxiety about going outside when its brighter and people talk to me when the sun is in my eyes its one more thing that makes interaction harder, sometimes its hard to look up and talk to people. If i am very depressed usually i avoid going outside because it just seems more intence. general anxiety is a lot less on cloudy days.

Like you I find the light extreme, a simple solution which I use now is wearing sunglasses, even if its too bright indoors or you are reading from a book or magazine where there is too much white light reflecting from it.

I think that I would find summers in Misourri (hope thats spelt right) hellish. I live in Northern Ireland and generally most of the weather is mild, over cast or rainy. Due to the fact that the weather is like this most of the year I believe exasperates the uncomfortableness caused my hotter weather changes. I personally find anything up to about 15 degrees ok going over than and into the 20s is when I really start to suffer

I don't like summer-- always associated it with boredom. And then everyone always says, "It's SUMMER! Isn't it GREAT!" which just makes me feel worse about it.

I HATE summer weather. It's extremely hot & humid in south Louisiana this time of year. The bright light hurts my eyes; I see better in lower light. I also have skin allergies & sinus problems & the heat makes my skin itch & the stuff in the air from everything growing makes me itch & aggravates my sinuses more. I also do not like how it rains more either. Lots of docs claim that people who suffer from depression or other mood problems tend to feel better in spring & summer than fall & winter but it's the opposite for me. I think the extra sunlight actually causes me to have more problems cuz I'm more apt to get depressed at nite when I spent the day outside during the summer & I feel less depressed & more stable during the winter. I think my body is designed for winter & NOT summer(least here)
