Thank you everyone. These last two days I've got much needed validation. Again, I'm not looking for an excuse, but I don't like being told to "put down the fork" when I know I eat much healthier than joe blow on the street, and to "exercise once in a while," when I exercise more in 4 weeks than some people do in a year. For once, I actually started a thread about this that lasts more than 5 posts without even one idiot telling me to stop making excuses.

If I actually wanted to be thin I could be, but I'd have to exercise hard for 4 hours a day, at least six days a week, and never eat over 900 calories a day. I could do that, but then life wouldn't be worth living.

I do realize that not all people are meant to be slim no matter what they do. Look up William Sheldon's somatotypes, though it really only applies to men

Sarcasm aside, that is a surprise. When I google body types, I always find women-related pages.

google ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph, those are the 3 male types

females have apple, pear, banana, and hourglass i think but those don't really cover their metabolism speeds or how fat or thin they are, just how the weight is proportioned

The body types (ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph) are the same for women. What you're referring to is body shape.

Yeah i think women who are slightly on the mesomorph side are kinda hot. But when they talk about those types, its always the men i see them referring to on the sites i get from google.

Just today I read an article in Reader's Digest called "Eat This, Lose Weight, the New Science of Dieting." The author says that restricting calories and exercise are the worst things you can do when trying to lose weight because those are precisely the two things that will make you hungry all the time. He pretty much recycles Atkins-type ideas and says that some people need to eat foods that keep insulin low (i.e., fats and proteins, not carbs) in order to lose weight. The author was Gary Taubes and I think he has written a book on this idea.

There is another possibility that you are not eating enough. If you are exercising a lot you might need to eat more so your body will stop holding onto the weight. It's also possible that 230 at your height, especially if you are active/ strong/ muscular is not a bad weight (I don't believe you mentioned your height).

Also, if you have been doing the same exercise for years, it is possible you have plateaued because your body is so efficient at these exercises that it no longer burns a lot of calories in order to do them. In which case you could try a different type of exercise, as long as you enjoy it.

Anyway no matter what you do, you should do it for your health, not to be thin. Your health is paramount! Suicide should be the last thing on your mind if you decide to treasure and care for your health.

ps I have used the site http://caloriecount.about.com/ , they have tools there to calculate your calorie needs depending on your activity level and current weight/ height. They also have message boards there.

The quick and dirty? The people who think fat people are inferior and week - ie. some of my former best friends - think that way because, well... they get to feel like their superior to someone else. Its not well-informed disrespect, its not even an attempt, their skinny, other people are fat, thus fat people are just versions of them that make inferior choices. Its *all* ego.

That's unfortunately how many human beings work on *many* issues. In fact, that's a huge part of why society drowns/strangles auties in terms of opportunity over some very small misunderstandings that go on with grave pervasive consequences - the gene pool uses pettiness as a substitute for nature culling the supposed 'weak'. I hate to say it that way but, I think the better we understand pettiness and egotism, understand that its really a weapon forged against us, the better we understand what we're up against and how to defeat it.

I'm 5'7. I have a lot of muscle in my thighs and too much fat in my abdomen. It's the "trouble spots" that just won't go down.
