That statement didn't suggest liking pop music makes one inherently immature, only that nick007 is immature and a fan of pop music.
It implies they are connected. Otherwise why say it? That's like saying, "I had breakfast and I like pop music," in a thread about pop music.
I've been called immature for liking them & I'm immature in some other ways too. I've also been called gay for liking boy bands but it was OK for girls to like girl groups so I don't get why a guy liking a boy band is wrong.
Society seems to think guys can only hold males as role models, and only if they're hyper-masculine; they can be 'hard', or they can be intellectual; but if they're 'soft' or sentimental the assumption is that other men can tolerate that, even approve of it, but never embrace it.
Both boy bands and girl groups are aimed towards young females though, girl groups are more 'role model'-ish and boy bands are 'romantic interest'-ish. Notice that boys can't embrace girl groups (or mixed gender groups) either without being treated the same way you describe? Basically it has more to do with the music than the gender make-up of the group.
