A Dylan song which I have always found baffling as heck. The characters in the story are inside a stone structure with watchtowers. It seems to be a prison in the first half of the song, but seems to be a protective fortress, or palace, in the second half of the song. Maybe that contradiction is intentional. Could be that Dylan was speaking metaphorically about how many things in life double as both sanctuaries and as prisons.

At any rate the lyrics seem suddenly oddly more meaningful in the current crises. Here is the original Dylan version, and the far more popular cover by Jimi Hendrix.
