Although there may be some truth in what he said. Traditionally I have met more guys fitting the definition of clever I have presented than girls.
Such facts as that for example in chess there are separate tournaments for men and women usually and women tends to perform worse (only a couple of them in worlds top 100 by FIDE ranks) and, as was mentioned by someone else in this topic, similar situation exists in various internet forums drawing clever people (they are male dominated), proves this subjective opinion to some extent.
Anyway, I am sure this is not an absolute rule, but probably it is much harder for a clever guy to find a clever girl than vice-versa because the proportion is far from 1:1.
In my life I have probably met only three clever females (as per definition above) - of course, it is hard to say for sure because two of these three I know relatively little so I might be wrong about them and also there are other girls around me who might be clever but I don't know enough about them to find that out.
Sorry for my English by the way as it is not my native language.
One thing that should be noted it that (to my knowledge) the majority of forum based communication is carried out between males. Men seem to be the primary Internet users. Possibly this is a self-perpetuating trend, as any woman attempting to join an online community will be inundated with sexist opinions and harassment. So, it is unfair to use the proportions of the genders present in smart-arse forums as basis for judgement, as there are fewer women on the Internet anyway, intelligent or not.
Not sure about chess, but I always thrashed my brother at monopoly.
