What sort of question is that?

Do you realise how asinine a question it was and how offensive it is to abuse victims?

Or is it OK to get away with it just because it's MR20?

Someone has to do something about Fnord.

Someone has to take a stand.

You're not a "loser", you're a person with Asperger's stuck in a negative thought loop obsession. I've seen this before. Unfortunately, the only way out of it is YOU have to fight it yourself. The more you tell yourself all these negative things, the more you feed and strengthen the thought loop.

Self loathing is as addictive as any drug. I've been in a position where you are, where it feels right to hate myself, and the only thing that makes sense or makes the world seem stable/right is to hate myself more. Then if I tell myself I am being weak and need to fight it, I hate myself MORE FOR being weak, and it actually only feeds the cycle. I crave other people to tell me negative things about myself to solidify my self-image.

You have to fully realize and understand all this. Just think about it. Analyze the situation without emotion.

I have. People have been telling me this my whole life. (that a I'm ugly, slow and stupid bum that wouldn't amount to nothing) When people keep telling you the same thing over and over again it's HARD not believe it, and It's not like the evidence isn't there. Numerous times I've had people ask me was I in special ed or were my parents crackheads. (My dad was/is)

Maybe the things you thought about yourself wasn't true. You seem like a strong-willed person, maybe you were just in a bad place for a while.

In my case it's all true. I am a 25 year old ugly, stinky, poor, slow, stupid, uneducated, jobless, annoying, and irritating bum that still lives with his parents and can barely take care of himself.

I am a pathetic loser that has no future.

You're a loser because of your attitude. Instead of bitching about nothing ever working, how much your life sucks. Go out and FIX those things. Is there a reason why you don't bathe? I've known plenty of people who have been in bad situations including ones worse then yours yet they didn't go online and b***h about it all the time. Fix your issues and your attitude.

BTW, I'm a loser because of who I am, not because of my attitude. I wish people would stop hiding behind that, it's such a cop out. It's hard being positive and having a good attitude when you're as pathetic as me.

Then work on the sh** that you think makes you a loser. Get your GED, get a job, bathe daily, there's lots of things you can do to make your life better. And honestly you'll feel better doing something about rather then bitching about it on a daily basis on this website.

It's not that simple. I'm so sick of this "get over it" attitude that people like you and Fnord seem to have. I'm just not capable of this stuff. I barely know my time-tables and fractions, there's no way that I'm going to be able to pass a GED exam. I can't comprehend most of that stuff.

I can't get a job because I don't have an education, a car for transportation, and I struggle around crowds of people.

I can't bathe regularly because that's not really possible with my living conditions. I have no hot water, and my bathroom is dirty and rat-infested. Also, really hard to bathe now in the fall/winter with no hot water.

I can't get a girl to talk to me because I'm an ugly, slow, stupid, poor, friendless, weird and boring bum that has nothing going for himself

I don't have friends because I'm "uncool", annoying and very irritating to be around

There's not a lot of things that I can do because simply, I'm too inadequate and inferior. There's no hope.

This is not true. Low self esteem does not make one a "loser". MR20 suffers from chronic low self esteem, and thus incapacitates himself with a dangerous negative feedback loop of self-criticism.

Ok, so I've been called a quitter and coward by two different people in this thread. I'd say those are characteristics of someone you would label a loser. Am I wrong?

The most important thing is that a loser cant change.
If you are a loser you can buy nice clothes and you´d be a loser in disguise but that wont make you less of a loser.

You can work in yourself and are therefore disqualified to become a loser so the applicable term is quitter.

imo losers are born as losers and being a loser isnt defined by some aspects of your life that didnt turn out as you´d have liked them to.

I don't agree with you. I don't think anyone is born a loser. I doubt there's a loser gene. How do you define loser anyway? Someone who can't win, no matter what? IS there a person born like that? Of course people can change.

You are more than free to have a different opinion as long as you arent attacking others for having their own.

If you have a look at Fnord´s list you´d see that some of this characteristics loser males have have been that way since birth. These are things that could be improved if the OP choose to but he doesnt seem interested on that at the moment.

Fnord's list is Fnord's opinion. And who's to say whether those characteristics are inborn, or acquired, and how the person will be effected by them?

And implying you were being attacked is way beyond asinine. Seriously.

Im not implying Im being attacked I just like to mention this things out in the open in a friendly way before things get out of hand instead of sending not so friendly PMs but dont worry I wont bother you with this(just dont complain to me if you receive a warning for going getting carried away on a discussion).

Again we have different opinions and you are free to have your own opinion same way Im free to have mine.
edit: keeno theres a moderator attention thread where you can bring something to the mod squad attention and I strongly suggest that you use that next time(this board is huge and there are only 3 of us so we do miss things but any kind of help from users is more than welcome)

An honest one. There has to be a reason why the OP seems to resist all attempt to guide him away from self-deprecation. I'm trying to find out.

No. It is only a question, not an accusation.

Keeno wrote:

It's the same question I've asked others who resist all attempt to guide them away from self-deprecation. Eventually, it all comes down to MR20's motivation.

Keeno wrote:

Well, someone has, and that has resulted in one moderator sending me a PM about it.

Satisfied?

I voted yes. That doesn't mean I think that you suck, or that you're a bad person, and it certainly doesn't mean that you don't have potential. What you have is a losing attitude. You hold onto it like a comfort blankie, and you throw a fit whenever anyone suggests that you throw it away. You've been given so much good advice in the short time I've been reading here, but you reject it and cling to that false impression you have that you are damaged to the point that even small repairs are pointless. I work with people who are much more seriously disabled than you: spina bifida, CF, MS, etc. Most of them are on disability and many of them are quite unattractive in any conventional sense. Some are in wheelchairs, some are blind, some have serious physical deformities. Many of these people are in healthy, stable relationships with lovers, family, the world, and their own selves.
So yes, in life you are losing, and you'll continue to lose out as long as you hold onto the idea that you have no other choice.

If your house is that filthy, you'd be better off in a shelter. You could bathe and wash your clothing. They would help you get a job.
Put yourself on a wait-list for section 8 housing. You're on disability so you qualify for food stamps and Medicaid. I assume you get SSI rather than SSD, since you've never worked and you're poor. You can absolutely afford a low-income subsidized efficiency + utilities on $600/month, plus food stamps. Get a place in a downtown area and you wont need transportation to get to work. You don't need a GED to work a minimum wage job, and if you're as slow as you're convinced you are, there are programs that will find work for you. Working just a few hours a week will supplement your SSI without the risk of losing it. You can get a job where you can work alone, for the most part (sorting clothing in the SalVal warehouse, janitorial, etc), and spend the extra money on the simple things that make you happy.

You live in a country that takes care of its people. You're not taking care of yourself.

Tell me, how would my life be any better? I'll still feel the way I feel. (depressed, miserable, lonely, bitter) I'll still be an ugly, slow, stupid, and poor pathetic loser.

I won't have any friends

In addition to the above reasons; Girls won't even talk to me because I'm below the poverty line, I can't drive, and I'm a good for nothing bum.

Tell me, what's the use of living if I have a future like that to look forward to?

Okay ... let me ask another question - a nicer one this time.

You seem to have access to a computer and an Internet connection. You also seem to be articulate. Your spelling and grammar seem to be on par with first-year university students.

Have you ever thought of combining these into working as a medical transcriptionist or maybe even as a writer of fiction?

Really. I mean it. Please give it some thought before you answer.

You deliberately ignored what I said about working with people who are severely handicapped and physically disfigured, who lead full lives and have good relationships.

I know you're fighting an uphill battle, but it doesn't have to be a losing battle. Depression is a double edged sword, because the only way to get out of it is to motivate yourself to do so; yet depression takes away your motivation. It takes strength to strengthen yourself, ironically. It takes courage to make yourself brave. What you need to do is work out a plan, whether or not you believe in it. FAKE IT. And the moment you have a bit of strength or fortitude (I know you're going to say you NEVER have a good moment, but I won't believe you, so don't bother) that's when you need to strike. Change one thing. It will make you feel better, and give you the empowerment to change another thing, and then another.
Your life isn't hopeless.

I'm starting to think MR20 is an attention whore. He expects us all to pity him. Then when people offer him reasonable advice he goes around making excuses on why he can't do it.
