She has aged well, but not quite as well as he did. He still has his boyish appearance and now looks as if he was at least 15 years younger than her (instead of 5 years). If I didn't know that this is Kelly McGillis due to the photo on the left, I would have guessed that she's Tom's mother.

so.... you people are saying that people have to look young, and have to avoid aging naturally, in order to be attractive? 8O

i was not aware that "aging well" meant "looking as young as possible".

If Tom had the same haircut now that he had in Top Gun he would look even younger than he does.I don't agree that physical beauty is temporary.Personally I am not suggesting that I have physical beauty but when I was 19 -20 I was twenty pounds overweight had bad acne and was not at all attractive.I look significantly better at the age of 45.

I don't think it's fair to compare men to women in terms of skin types because men have thicker skin.

Quote:
As a result, men's skin is on average 20% to 30% thicker than women's skin, Tung says. And thicker skin does a better job of resisting wrinkles.

Hair glands also produce oil, which means men's faces are naturally oilier than women's, notes Seth Yellin, MD, chief of facial plastic surgery at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta. The oil traps moisture, which keeps skin hydrated and gives it a plumper and more youthful appearance.

Most people think so, why do you think the facelift surgery is so popular? especially among women?

It's simple tho, people are usually more attractive in their youth, it's common sense.

So they try to "maintain" this whatever they can.

I don't see how that's messed up really, it's just logic really, do you find the woman in the first photo more attractive than the one in the second? I don't know many people that find wrinkles and dehydrated skin to be attractive.

no... they aren't necessarily more attractive. some people don't equate youth with beauty. yes, i am aware that most people are slaves to biology, but not everybody. thank god.

i'm already "old" by Hollywood standards. and what i mean is that people are only able to appreciate youth for biological reasons. but not everyone is a slave to those standards - it's possible to find older people attractive.

This thread makes me feel so worthless :(

What happened to peoples value being more than what they look like.

I dont think being hot served marilyn monroe or heath ledger very well.

All the wisest and cleverest people are not classically beautiful yet they are happier with more rich lives.

When I was 20 I might have been less wrinkley and slimmer but I had far less achievements and knowledge than I do now.

crap thread is crap.

I think that's what most people mean when they say that someone has aged well. Otherwise, why bother to add the "well"?

Not that I find Kelly McGillis unattractive in that photo, mind you. It's just that Tom Cruise has aged better (i.e., looks much younger) than her. And no, people shouldn't avoid aging naturally imho. The results of facelifts, botox injections and other cosmetic surgeries are often quite grotesque. Aging well comes down to a healthy lifestyle and good genes.

when cheese or wine have "aged well" it means the opposite. this is curious.
