I keep reading on blogs things like 'she was an areis so we weren't compatible' or 'she was a gemini, that's my type'.

Do people really take that stuff seriously?

Seems ridiculous to me. When you were born doesn't affect your personality. It doesn't even affect your looks.

If I was going to pick a random thing to hook up with someone over it would be physical appearance. At least then you can be sure to enjoy your time together hooking up - even if you're not compatible...

If I was on a dating app and someone asked me that I would tell her 'not compatible with people who think that makes any difference to personality'...

I have observed that some people take comfort in superstitious beliefs. I don't really understand the capacity for a belief in star signs, but some seem to find it appealing. I suppose, since the descriptions for the various astrology signs are so vague, anyone can read them and find ways in which it's relatable.

So yes, I think some people take them seriously. Perhaps others just bring it up because they think it's fun to talk about. I try to tune it out or avoid them.

They found some evidence of chimps believing in some sort of deity, so yeah...don't be so surprised.

Superstition begins and ends for me on the sports pitch.

I can't imagine being so spoilt for choice that I could dump a beautiful, lovely woman just because she's a libra (for eg).

It seems strange that the person wouldn't know their partner's sign prior to getting involved with them. For that reason I would think that using their sign as a reason to break up with them, is just an excuse.

They say stuff like 'I had a pattern of dating fire signs which I noticed was bad for me so I tried dating an air sign instead'...

^ :? It baffles my mind. Maybe they are looking for patterns to make sense of things that can't be explained so simplistically?

People who lack brain trust others in their beliefs even if the others are the same or even more brainless. Politics shows that quite impressively. I'm a Saggittarius btw. It's OK once you are feeling like my targets.
The ones who don't take that seriously are allowed to feel that way as well.

Astrology is the mass cultural delusion that the apparent position of the sun and planets relative to arbitrarily defined "star signs" at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality and future.  Astrology has no relevance to understanding ourselves or our insignificance in the universe.  Modern advocates of astrology cannot account for the underlying basis of astrological associations with terrestrial affairs, have no plausible explanation for its claims, and have not contributed anything of real, cognitive value to any field of science.

There are actually 13 "signs" in the zodiac, by the way...

Be carefully with that. The "star signs" are related to different seasons and it may have kind of an influence because in northern regions it has an influence regarding the sun light, the colors and the temperatures during the first months of the life when the brain of a kid grows a lot. This may influence the way that people are but has a lot less influence then the parents who raise them up of course and it doesn't changes lots of external things and their fortune of course as Astrology claims.

All this is reminding me of an uncle who took this stuff really too serious...

To the point where he did numerology of my cousins & looked at their proper star signs (by the hour)

Apparently they're 'compatible'.

Yeah except they're sisters & they're straight... 8O

I mean the compatibility stuff could be read in other ways too so it was his misreading/miswording of it really. If I was doing that reading, I would have said 'you two will get on better than most sisters because your star signs and numerology scores align'.
