The last point I'd make is, even though 75% of women polled found comic books unattractive, 25% of them DID find it attractive. Sooooo... Go find THOSE women. Like at a comic-con.

We have comic-con in the Melbourne convention centre. Sat there and observed hundreds of attractive cosplay girls in skimpy female cinema/anime outfits. For the few who are not there with friends or boyfriends, going up to up them when they are wearing something link this

Is equivalent to hitting on girls sunbathing on the beach. Not sure its going to end well.

In my experience the women cosplaying like that often do want to talk, at least as much as anyone else you might encounter.

What they typically don't want is to be touched by strangers or have their tits stared at by weirdos who can't approach them but also can't divert their attention.

This!

I am 100% sure walking up to a cosplay girl and striking up a conversation is only going to work if she knows
a. you are there for the convention
b. you are a fan or at least know the character she is wearing
c. it would help if you are also dressed as some anime character and put some effort.

Being a random dude and walking up to one of them is going to give off creep vibes

A lot of them do. My eyes were my witness.

I didn’t say that some of them don’t dress that way, but it’s also true that many others don’t. It wouldn’t surprise me if you were less likely to notice them than others.

Not every costume is sexy and some wear tee shirts related to a video game or franchise they like instead of a costume.

I didn't know it was AI generated but for illustrative purposes, a lot of the women dress as anime warrior women carrying swords or weapons.

But as this is a male hobby thread, I think if you make some effort with your costume and you are seriously into one the genres then this might be a good segway to have something in common leading to new friendships at least.

Cosplay at comic cons can run the gambit. I have see all types, from the lazy (wearing a dirty large cardboard box) to very elaborate costumes that cost thousands, if not tens of thousands to make. I try not to judge them (with the exception of the truly lazy and very skimpy). There have been a few that I had to look the other way from, as they were not being modest by any means. I felt uncomfortable near them and moved a considerable distance from them (out of eyesight). Before you assume I am only talking about women dressing that way, you would be wrong. Men also do it for attention at comic cons. To each there own I guess. Not my cup of tea.

I have cosplayed before at large comic cons. It can be fun with the right group of people, much like a costume party. I would not cosplay on my own though. I have a theme that I use in all of my costumes. I cannot say what it is or it could give away my identity at future shows.

Gentlemen, if you are trying to impress a cosplay girl, please don't be like this dude and dress up as a COVID virus

I saw a couple go to a comic con as COVID in 2023. I guess they thought it was a great idea. They were not well received. Most thought it was tacky at best. Definitely not funny to those who lost someone during to the pandemic.

Being a fellow con attendee and not being a creep when you interact with them has always played out well for me in my experiences at cons. YMMV.

It’s not true that “any man who is good with his hands is going to be attractive.”
