I am wondering how you feel about PDAs? i.e. "public displays of affection" not a "personal digital assistant".

I have a real problem with it I guess because I don't like being touched without consent and I'm not much one for hand holding.

When my sister takes her husband's hand while he is driving or my friend pinches her husband's side I usually get anoyed and think they should leave them alone and keep their hands to themselves. :shameonyou:

Is this just me? I've never been in a real relationship, and I am happy for my sister and friend I just don't like all the touchy feeling stuff. Not even (or especially) with strangers, or if I see two people go to kiss each other I have to look away. It turns my stomach. 8O

I don't have problems with it in and of itself.

But I can understand that it can be unnerving to see other people's PDAs, and wondering "why isn't that me?"

Sounds like me. I wish they'd get a room that I'm not in. I once listened to a woman giving her toddler loud slurpy kisses on the bus. I clenched my jaw and thought happy things to calm my stomach. Afterward I carried a Walkman with NPR going to drown out the surroundings.

Love is beautiful, but not in my face, ok? :)

I don't mind seeing the holding of the hands or quick hugs/kisses, but I hate it when couples get all over each other in public. For instance, 2 years ago at high school this girl made out with her asian boyfriend in front of my locker every day. First of all, that's MY locker you're blocking. Second of all, why was she dating some asian dude instead of me? I mean, come on.

I don't mind other people showing PDA, but I'm not really for it. I have no problem with people touching me, its just that I have social anxiety so I would feel like everyone is watching me and crap. This is just one of the many reasons why I probably won't ever have a girlfriend

Most PDAs are powered by a proprietary battery, which I absolutely abhor because it's un-necessary, Since the Li-ion battery died in my last PDA, I have not bought anything that doesn't use a standard removeable battery. The AA battery standard works great for pocket-sized electronics, so I'm waiting until I can get a PDA that conveniently uses that.

Personal Digital Assistant is what the real-world refers to as a "PDA".

As for the highschool-termed "PDA", I do hate witnessing them, but it's more like what TimTex said. Seeing that is like being ridiculed for being alone. Out of mutual respect to the public, I always planned to never display intimacy for them to see. Just knowing that I have a significant other is enough for me. However, I've also wondered if it wouldn't be impossible to find a female who felt the same about it as I do.

I remember being 8, at the mall, and onlooking 20-something lesbians passionately making out // pierced, tattooed, dyed hair. Come on, it was the '80s!

I shyly looked away and grew bright red, but my eyes quickly diverted back and forth while passing. This moment stuck with me and changed my life forever. I wanted such intrigue in my life. And you know, it was all for show, but...what a show!

Anything less interesting is of no interest to me. I am numb.

Mmmmm... voyeurism
too bad most are too boring.
and still, I glow red and look away.

I also feel that PDA only means anything if the two people involved are well-suited for each other.

Hmm, I see PDAs between two adults, I get a combination of disgust, anger and bitterness.
Disgust at the slurping, sloppy sounds of kissing or the hands all over the place and the baseness of it
Anger because I usually cannot escape it at the time
bitterness because it is something I shall never be a part of... tho that is a paradox as most times, I wouldn't wish to be a part of such intimacies.

Also, anything beyond tongue-kissing should never be public.

A perfect example:

Thanksgiving weekend, 1993: This was just a couple of weeks before my 14th birthday, and at the time, we had an annual tradition of going to San Antonio and staying at a (usually nice) hotel on the Riverwalk. My parents' and my hotel room overlooked the swimming pool. I didn't go in the pool, because it was 17 degrees and snowing that night. The pool was indoors and heated, but we could see what the swimmers were doing.

That night, we all clearly saw something outrageous in the pool. A couple was having sex in the pool, in the sight of hundreds of hotel patrons. Even my cousin, who was 10 at the time, couldn't believe it.

Incidentally, we are reviving the annual Thanksgiving tradition this year.

I'm not such a fan of PDAs. Even when i'm involved it always makes me uncomfortable.

I love getting massages no matter where I am. At the bar, at home, in the car, wherever... so I guess I have my one exception.

I'm more into PDULs, public displays of uninhibited lust.

You should have been in San Antonio that day.

And my view of the couple was from the 30th floor of the hotel.

Well, it's no longer an issue for me now that I'm single. But as far as my being forced to observe PDAs, couples need to stay aware that they are not in their bedroom -- they are in public. Therefore, a certain amount of discretion should be observed. It does vary per couple, though. The main rule is, unless you are inviting others to join in, you should keep the PDA to a confortable minimum.
