Damn.

I was going to ask this guy who was selling the big issue for his number.

I spent about 1/2 an hour psyching myself up, and by the time I had the courage, he'd gone home!

That sucks... but better luck next time.

That's bad luck but it's often how it goes. Look on the bright side, you actually did work up the courage so you can do it again. It's so easy to just let everything build up to the point where it comes unbearable and then it collapses back in on you, leaving you feeling awful.

Congratulate yourself on that step and perhaps he will be back another day.

I'm good at this....I'm on a train usually and will strike up a conversation and forget to ask for their name....!

Is he selling the big issue, or using a copy of the big issue to get change? If he sells the big issue, then he will have a regular spot, you should be able to find him again. If he is not an official big issue seller, he might come back to favourate spot. I guess you will have to keep checking. You could ask other homeless people if they know him.

I just realised your age. Well if I tell you not to do this you are probably going to do it anyway so I won't bother.

How can I put this? Ok there are people a little older that you who in reality don't know all that much more than you. The main difference is they have been making the same damn stupid mistakes for that tiny bit longer. There is a possibility that it may eventually sink in but I wouldn't hold out hope. You've got plenty of time to f**k up some more later. Hope that helps.
