According some sources ive gotten off the net, the social cues NT people read breaks down to:

7%, to be exact (words)
55% of communication is visual (body language, eye contact)
38% is vocal (pitch, speed, volume, tone of voice)

being that aspies often dont read nonverbal social cues very well, what do you guys think you read into when socializing?

For me, I read very heavily into vocal cues which helps to make up for my lack in abilities to read body language. There are times I will find myself not looking at the person and just mostly reading their vocal cues. My breakdown is probably more like:

15% words
55% vocal
30% body language

Depends on the person and the situation where I am looking most.

Sources please!

I analyse the syntax for grammar and accuracy so I may fully comprehend the intent of the speaker(s).

Put me down for:
75% words
15% vocal
10% body

Innuendo is the bane of my existence.

I find, I often blink or turn away when people are speaking so I can see (in my head) what they are saying.

If there's a TV showing people conversing in the room, I'm hosed.

It's a shame the first two links don't cite their research sources, the last one get's interesting for me because of the reference to Albert Mehrabian and his research as shown on the Wikipedia page - yet again no further sources.

Thanks for the sources!

Theres probably more with those same numbers. Im guessing theres a widely known study that generated those numbers. You can look it up yourself, I just googled, "body language breakdown percentage", theres a ton more sources at least confirmed that NT people only read 7% words when communicating. ,

another 1, http://www.superbodylanguage.com/?p=9, even if the numbers arent quite right, the main point is that NTs communicate heavily thru body language while aspies communicate heavily with words. Thats why for many aspies communication is often more efficient thru an online medium where words is the only thing u see. Tho for me Im able to read way more non-verbals then Im actually able to communicate the non-verbals.

60% words
30% vocal
10% body

I am unlikely to notice body language at all, much less decipher its meaning. And if signals are in conflict... 8O I don't even know what to do.
