i did have an exceptionally fast metabolism when i was young, which flipped to being slow past middle age.

There might be something in this as AS by nature causes more stress and anxiety, linked to the 'cannibalistic' hormone cortisol (it eats both fat and muscle tissue, and suppresses 'building' hormones like testosterone). At the other extreme, AS encourages isolation, hence poor diet and finding pleasure through food (rather than, erm, sex). So I wouldn't be surprised, if plotting a graph, there would be peaks at the thin and fat extremes for people with AS. With the odd exception, like me :P
