How much do you talk? And how good are you at expressing yourself verbally? I am extremely quiet when I'm out of my comfort zone or when people are dicussing a topic that I'm not familiar with. I also tend to tense up when I'm around girls, since I have difficulty conversing with the opposite sex. other than those problems, I'm smooth.

That almost sounds just like me. When it comes to expressing my thoughts to other people, I can generally speak fluently. The only scenerio where I can't express myself with ease is when I'm trying to talk about something that I have very little knowledge about.

I'm often alone or with my less-verbal son, so I go for hours and hours without having an intelligle conversation. But then I'll talk my husband's ear off or call my mom or an acquaintance on the phone and talk till I hurt.
I have a bad habit of starting a conversation with the middle of the story. Like, I've been thinking about it for so long that I forget to introduce the topic and start in talking about it. I have a breathing problem that interferes with pacing my sentences too.
I have other organizational problems and the "brain fart" syndrome, where I was planning on saying something eloquently and just end up saying, "derrrrrrrr. . . I dunno!" 8O

I talk if I do know what I'm talking about, and I articulate well.

i have a high vocabulary but i don't use it, because im not too social. if someone talks to me most of the time i look and sound normal unless i start studdering then its all down hill and speaking becomes difficult, the words just fall out of my mouth that make no sence. lol

I have been told by people whom I assume to be reasonably intelligent that they are intimidated by my vocabulary.

By nature I am a very extroverted person. I know this because I remember how talkative I was in my early years. Now I am simply trying to refind this nature.

I find it much easier to talk when I'm only around one or maybe two people. I have much more control over the flow of the conversation and don't have to constantly try to keep up with an ever-changing topic like I need to contend with when dealing with a group.

With one or two people I can be very talkative. In groups and loud places (even when I am only talking to a single person), I tend to be very quiet because I can't keep up with everything.

Most days the last 6years I have not spoken to any one socially, except my family and not much with them either. Now that I live alone most days I dont say a single word to anyone.

I am usually not good at articulating myself, partly because of anxiety, the stress of the social situation and I often get unfocused by sound or movements. Back when I had something that I could have called friends I was a bit better.

You forgot the poll option:
I don't talk alot, I am not good at articulating myself.

Got it too, where you always like that? For me it has increased.

Words is what I'm good at. er... words are? Anyway, yeah, it's my strong point. People used to be intimidated until I learned to talk like my sister-in-law, so I sound NT. Unless I lose my temper - did you know that the best way to hear somebody's natural way of speaking is to make them mad? If I'm angry, I flip into my whole vocabulary properly pronounced and I freak everybody out. Then I shut up for a few months.

In my comfort zone, once I start talking I talk lots in order to try to express myself. If I could actually express myself concisely I'd not talk very much. Outside of my comfort zone I will either say the bare minimum (ie speak when spoken to) or talk too much, but my articulation goes downhill all too quickly.

Tonight a friend on the phone agreed that I write better than I speak.

So I think that's how I am going to communicate with my friends from now on. I dont feel as stupid around people when I write rather than when I speak.

sometimes when I speak I sound as if I know nothing about the subject, that's because all the real info is swirling around in my head and can't seem to come out.

I can be quite annoying when it comes to conversations. I talk a lot and can bore people or easily change the topic so many times.
