When you know that humans are at least 100,000 years old and that in
this span of time nothing is changed in their physical and mental
structure, that in the last 6,000 years all is changed in the
organization of social life and in the production of means of
subsistence; that population has skyrocketed from 6m to 6b, don't you
ask yourselves: is there a future for humans in the next 100 years. And
if not (as I frankly believe) wouldn't the question be not "what do we
have to do?", but how do we have to live in a world without future?
But to the question in the title I would definitely anser yes. The future is not on our shoulders, and we should be able to live without illusions. Difficult but possible.

Don't worry about the future. Don't worry about the past. Which is the only time frame that you can control? This moment. The eternal present. All that worrying about what's gonna happen in 100 years or 1000 years will ruin your life right now.

Time marches on. The future will be ready for you when it arrives. Just let it.

The future is on our shoulders. Who else can control it? You should enjoy life in the present but remember that tomorrow will be the present soon. Don't despair over the future but rejoice in changing it.

The future does not exist. It is a philosophical concept, until it arrives, at which point it's no longer THE FUTURE. I agree with slowmutant, theorizing about what might happen is counterproductive to what you could be accomplishing right now.

As for the planet and it's human population, don't let the alarmist media scare you into wasting emotional energy on things that aren't going to happen (remember Y2K?). Read Michael Chrichton's State of Fear for a great adventure story, with plenty of footnotes from scientific journals, to put your mind at rest about the global warming MYTH.

Ma Terra is far wiser than we, and has endured far worse than a nest of pesky parasites like the human race. When she's had all she cares to put up with, she'll shake us off like so many fleas. Species go extinct, planets die, stars collapse. Nothing exists forever (at least so far as our the best of puny minds can prove). Enjoy the moment without borrowing trouble from an imaginary 'future'.

I'm dissappointed, I think the future should've happened a long time ago. If nothing happens, the future is probably going to be destroyed with all the mass waste and productions we have already created.

I don't understand this statement, PickWick. The future is always just ahead of the present. And since the present never stops happening, neither does the future. The past is always trailing just behind, but never catches up with the present. The present is eternally becoming the past.

Unless you're inside a temporal anomaly ...

I think I believe in freedom of expression, something that comes from within a thought rather than following what you ephasize as common rule or order. Or am I parading in on a bunch of prophetic scholars to be?

the future will always be there, whether we're here or not..;)

Actually, 100,000 years ago we were pretty different than now. Not sure when Homo Sap showed up, but think it's more recent than that. One thing that made us come out on top is our adaptability.

As things change, people change with events and environments. Things we don't understand now will be solved by our descendants. Who, in turn, will find new problems of their own...;)

So the future will be there, along with us. We're tough monkey boys, and we'll still come out on top...;)

The future may come out on top along with earth, but the monkey boys may go like most things have. The Industrial Age wasn't that long ago. Not everything lasts forever.

I am allowed a subjective view on this right?
