I was at the mall with my mom last Tuesday before I went to my group therapy.I had just gotten ice cream and mom had gone to the bathroom.I was bored so I listened in on a conmversation 3 girls were having.I think that they were looking at an yearbook(or annual),too. Anways,I wasn't paying too much attention until I heard one of them say,"That girl sooooo looks autistic!"

At this statement my head jerked up and I listened more intently than ever.Thye were laughing and going through that yearbook making fun of people by calling them "autistic".And then they're like,"'Autistic'....hmmm,that's a fun word!"

I was so angry I almost started screaming at them.People like them are so f***ing ignorant.

Argh, Superficial NT b****s. Popular culture strikes again! :x :x :x Sure, some auties do look autistic but it took me (I'm barely on the spectrum) at least a yr of my dx to pick it, and that's only in severe cases. I'd want to slap them as well.

It'as just the latest catchword. Before that, the catchword was "gay" as in (sneer) "that's so GAY!" And before that, "ret*d." If adults were making a big fuss over people being two-eyed, kids would be using it as a sneer.

Kids will always pick up on stuff like that.

They're teenage girls. What else can we expect from them, tolerance and compassion? Yeah right. :roll:

Apparently, that must be a cultural thing because around here, people insult each other by saying, "He's so special" or "That was real special of you." And people wonder why I do not want to teach kids beyond 3rd grade if I go into teaching as a profession.

I've dealt with girls like that, in High School. There was even one boy who was like that. The thing is that they were in the Self-Contained class, and I was the one who touched base, in the Resource Room, two Periods out of eight. The girls in the SC Class were standing around with the guy who was also in their class. The girls asked me why I wasn't eating with the Passive Students in the SC Class. The boy who was also in the SC Class, blurted out, "She wants to be "Normal!" The thing is that I was more "Normal" than he was. I've only needed the RR for two isolated Periods. He needed to be in the SC Class, for at least five Periods, out of eight.

RR = Resource Room

SC Class = Self-Contained Class

Just curious... How do you mean that? What's that, looking "autistic"?

I'd love to know how you can look 'autistic'. What an ignorant group of b*****s. I can understand your outrage at this SpaceCase, as I dont really understand how one can look autistic or why being autistic is such a bad thing in the first place, bloody NTs!

Simple. They don't smile in their pics. They look like they are trying to smile but end up with this neutral expression

Many aspies have a certain 'look' imo.

When i 1st arrived here, i was still in the process of diagnosing myself. A lot of it was relating to other posters thoughts and experiences, but also looking at their photos. Maybe CRACK is right about awkwardness around cameras.

Maybe you're right CRACK, I can see your point on that one. Im a little different though, in that I instantly smile or laugh when someone points a camera at me for some reason, usually out of shyness or embarrassment. :oops:

In my 2nd year at uni I was offered the chance to have some really nice pictures taken at a discount price as was my mate so we decided to do it. In every picture apart from one Im smiling purely because I kept laughing at the photographer (not because he was funny but because I felt nervous and a little uncomfortable and I felt that some of the poses were silly) and he took the picture when I stopped being giggly or daft. He thought I was really funny for it, I was actually worried he was going to get annoyed. In the end, he gave up asking me not to smile, and said he usually has the opposite problem with other people. My mate was easier to photograph cos she did as she was told without laughing at him.

RR = Resource Room

Regular classes with a resource room can be quite the hot setup! ;)
