After having the school drop the ball on my sons assessment last spring, we've finally got a plan in place! Had a meeting yesterday afternoon with the principal and school psych (his teacher was a no show!! !) and after getting past their initial "yep, it's ADHD" response, we got them to agree to evaluate him for "autistic-like behaviors". Thanks to everyone who offered their advice and support in my previous posts!

Also, I did talk with my son, a bit, about the process we have begun. I didn't offer any possible diagnosis, only let him know that we're asking the school to evaluate him to see how they can help him with some of the problems he's been having. He asked about what's involved, and I told him they'll have him do some tests, including an IQ test. "COOL!" he said. "I've always wanted to take on of those!"

And that was it.

No objections, no arguments, no fits. No problem!

Today, the sun shines optimistic...

hope that things go your way. my son's district refused to believe he has aspergers, even though the neuropsych eval we had done clearly defined his issues. although it's great that the district is willing to go through with testing, be prepared for their possible denial and downplaying of your son's issues~sorry to be negative, but we had a truly AWFUL time with our son's district. again, i hope things go your way.

How did the evaluation go? Did the school agree with the AS dx? Are they willing to adapt programing?
