I hope the Haven area is the right place to post this....

Im having a dreadful time right now. I have a difficult time with "placing my body in space" anyhow, but its coupled with Vertigo. Merry Christmas huh? It started Wednesday night with me being physically sick and with dizziness so bad that I couldnt stand. I went to the Dr on thursday, (It was THAT BAD) and he gave me "Anti Vert" to calm the sensations of an inner ear imballance. I was told that this "could last hours or, well, we wont gointo how long this could last". And instructions to return if in 10 days Im still spinning. I cant miss work. So I take the meds. The meds make me semi comotose. As long as Im sitting Im okay. As soon as I stand, the world spins. This is so frusterating. My older sister has menears where she gets like this ALL THE TIME! I am scared to death that I might have the same thing. I cant think clearly on the meds, so Im not taking them except at night when I can sleep. I cant stand straight as long as Im not taking them, so I try to not to have to walk anyplace. Im about to scream!
Anyone else have any remedies that might help?
I dont want to be sleepy all the time on the anti vert, and I want to beable to walk from point A to point B without falling.
*tears of frusteration*
this is a sensory nightmare on crack!! ! *sigh* Oh and since last night, I have ringing in my ears too....

I had to stand on stairs to do pull ups once and I felt like I was falling when I looked down. Is that vertigo?

I'm sorry.

I wish there was something I could do.

thanks, but no need to be sorry, not your fault. I have decided on the bright side that the "walking like a drunken sailor" can be loads of fun..... I have a reason to....

Unforunately it does sound like Meuniere's Disease. My understanding is that it tends to come and go and mostly affect older people and it's an inner ear thing. Since you don't like the antivert would you be open to trying other things? Tricyclics like Elavil have been found to affect both the body and the mind and might be of help. Another thing that might help (just guessing - I don't know if I'm completely off base here but you never know) is cannabis.

I had a two year problem of feeling like I didn't know where my body was in space. My Doc thought I was crazy. It was scary - I thought I had a brain tumor. It went away all of a sudden but I''ll never forget it. I felt like I had just gotten off a boat and couldn't trust my legs.

Good luck.

aylissa,

I went to the dr the other day, and he took one look in my ears and said I had a bad ear infection. I got anti-biotics this time and the dizzy is gone. Although I have a dreadful cold now.... I hope it doesnt come back at all, btw, whats cannibis?

My mom got vertigo when she had an ear infection, and it DID go away once the infection was gone. I personally get vertigo occassionally, or waves of dizziness anyway, but that's usually lack-of-food related and goes away when I eat.

I'm glad you're better. Cannabis sativa aka marijuana has tons of medical uses that we don't yet know about because the government won't let us research it. Not that I smoke the stuff, though - it makes me paranoid.

My husband has it! They give him meclazine I think to control it. He had to stop working driving a cab and it made him deaf in one ear. It has been hard and we'd be in terrible shape if he didn't have the v.a. hosp. to go to. We have no health coverage. They won't give him a prognosis either. I'm told it can disappear spontaneously though. Good luck.

Does being typsy from alcohol count as vertigo?
