I'm sick of people saying "Christmas is for children"

I don't know why, but whenever someone voices that remark I feel mad.

Yes I admit Christmas is more magical when you're a child or have children, and it's easier to get them toys and stuff because children are easy to please.
But people make it sound like this whole busy holiday at the end of the year is all only for the minors and that adults have to turn a blind eye to it all and wake up with 0 gifts on Christmas day.

I don't believe Christmas is for children. Christmas is what you make it. Anyway, if Christmas was for children then why do I have to endure the works Christmas party every year? Why not say "as adults Christmas is nothing to us, so why are we having a Christmas party?"? And why do they sell so much lovely gifts for adults in stores?
When I once had to work on Christmas day I felt miserable, but my family were all like, "well, what's Christmas day to you at your age?" Well actually Christmas day means a lot to me. I spend a lot of time and money buying gifts for those I love, and the Christmassy atmosphere with my family always fills me with festive spirit, and it's actually a time where all of us can express our inner child and let our hair down.

Anyone agree?

You do whatever you want! I'm going to be celebrating Christmas every December until my last. If anyone doesn't like that, too bad!

Where I live, Christmas is a very important get-together-make-peace-with-everyone time.
Of course kids are most excited about Christmas trees and presents but giving individual good wishes to everyone you know is a very important social ritual for adults.

Adults give gifts too, the gifts can be stupid.

Its a family get together with a meal, that's all and we try and make it a bit magic for the kids. As an adult Christmas can be a bit cheesy, putting paper crowns on and reading awful jokes from crackers, at least everyone can enjoy the food and the decoration.
It would be nice if it as snowed just once!

There were things I really enjoyed about the holidays as a kid but I don't or can't anymore because I'm an adult.

But one thing I don't miss is being up all night waiting to open my presents. I'm sure my parents don't miss it, either.

Xmas just like Easter, Black Friday, Boxing Day, etc retailers pressure people into spending money. Having Aspergers I do not care much about retail sales events. Xmas has lost is true meaning with more people turning away from religions and it has been replaced with retailers pressuring people into spending money.

Usually when people say that to me I respond by saying, "I must be a very old child, than." Those people jump back and look at me with a surprised look on their faces.

This year, it's just going to be the Missus and I, and Naia the cat. We'll sleep in, have a late breakfast, open our presents, and try to do a global Skype with our offspring.

Otherwise, it's just another day.
