Any of you folks know how to talk softer? I speak pretty darn loud. :( :( :(

Hey, I do this sometimes too--It's tough to break, so be patient with yourself.

Try to speak quietly when you remember that your words are just as good quiet as they are loud. Kindness can be expressed in low voices as much as it can in loud ones.

I speak softer when I have earplugs on.
Apparently, I hear everything louder than "normal" people and I automatically adjust my volume to the noise level I perceive (which is louder than others).

I have the opposite problem of talking very quietly, but I just remembered in passing: you can download free phone apps that measure decibels.
Could be useful for practicing different volumes whilst speaking, get a self-conscious focus on the feel of them in your mouth/throat.
(I used one with my guitar to set my sense of dynamics right: took just over a month)

Many people on the spectrum also have auditory processing problems – difficulty judging volume and tone. You might see if you can get tested for that as a specific problem behind the issue.

Another tip from my experience, as I see you're female:
I couldn't make myself speak softer but I've learned to speak with deeper voice. Apparently, deeper voice is less annoying even if still too loud.
