What is with people and Anime

Basically what Hyrule said, Japanese culture doesn't view cartoons as a medium for telling stories to kids or for making jokes, so there's more 'serious' shows. Personally I like anime like Berserk and Afro Samurai, or stuff like Wangan Midnight and Initial D.

There's loads I don't like too, but why focus on the stuff one doesn't like when there's stuff one will appreciate if they're exposed?
