Good 'ol Dad...
Unless any of you can provide actual studies confirming AS with child molestation I suggest you stop.
And since Aspies are always complaining about people diagnosing themselves or others with crap they get off the internet I also suggest that you stop confusing actual confirmed diagnoses with "I think all paedophiles have undiagnosed AS" because they match 1 or 2 random symptoms.
I don't think that all Shiggly. I just said people with deveoplmental disabilities are more likely to abuse children in regards to not being able to meet a childs needs - this is not true for everyone though. Some people with these kinds of disabilites function very well in society in many areas.
I myself have struggled to meet my daughters needs because of my disability or perhaps of ours combined. I have been reported to child protection in regards to neglect and of having mental health problems. However, they know that I am a good mom and most caring - They encouraged me of this. Because I am case-managed through child and family services (welfare) and have been on and off for over 11 years - I meet many parents in similar situation. Most of them have mental disability of some kind and are not able to care for thier children.
Also, a combining factor of child abuse is that these parents donot get any to little support. I never did with my daughter.
As I have been educated - through the News and other information I beleive it is correct that paedophiles comes from all walks of life and you cannot profile them to be of any particular person. The only other factor that increases it is enviromental circumstances. Such as family's that have to live in squats or over crowded living conditions - all sleeping in the same room etc

I am talking specifically about AS men and paedophilia. not your side topic of disabilities and neglect.

Women have every right to discuss their experiences with pedophilia and AS. I suggest anyone interested in censoring this discussion go elsewhere and stop acting like a Mod. Like I said, it is my belief that for whatever circumstances befell some individuals with AS, they became pedophiles. It is true. The reality of AS is different for everyone with it, and for everyone with a family member who has it. The possibilities are endless, just like they are for those without it. It seems when someone has it, a violation of trust, such as pedophilia has an even deeper mental impact when everything in the picture is summed up, and the diagnosis went uncaught for so long. The OP did not mean for this to be some type of intellectual debate amongst people making speculative accusations towards her and what she meant or had experienced first hand. There are women who have been molested by pedophiles with AS. The topic is totally appropriate for Wrong Planet. There are more than likely, many females on this board who have had similar experiences with their fathers, and trying to push this out of the realm of possibilities is like a nightmarish example of patriarchal logic and pseudo science. Get a life, if you can't be supportive of women looking for support in their threads about their life experiences. That is the point of the Women's Forum.
she admitted that she didn't know her father had AS, she was speculating. You admit that you knew people that didn't have diagnosed AS and that you were speculating.
So yeah, you started the speculations.
If she was looking for support her post would read differently. She is looking for validation of an unsubstantiated assumption. If she wants to edit her post to remove the causal links, or provide evidence I would be happy with either.
But while we are merely speculating without evidence. I could post any random crap I want and justify it.
I think that AS causes women to attempt causal links between random occurrences that are not linked because it allows them to discriminate against more people.
there. that is my experience with AS and paedophilia.
if you want to censor me then go elsewhere.

I didn't think it was any part of the discussion until drowbot0181 and Shiggily stepped in to misinterpret the OP's question and throw accusations around at everyone for simply empathizing with the OP for sharing a personal experience in correlation with AS and pedophilia together. There was never an emphasis that AS caused pedophilia in this thread, but somehow people were offended as if that was the case. I believe, drowbot0181 and Shiggily are the one's who have been the utmost offensive here to victims that want to discuss similar experiences of relevance to WP. I for one, am greatly offended by the misinterpretation, but I don't need to cater to anyone if they can't be respectful in the first place. So hopefully, they can figure out their mistakes for themselves, because I'm not going to show them why they are wrong by going back over everything again.

I think you should get a grip on your emotions with other women. You've expressed some very distraught issues here that don't really have anything to do with this thread and frankly, are just out of place. If you want to keep going on like this, then fine, that's your choice. I'm not here for arguments when you are being unstable and fail to see the OP's reasoning. Maybe you should find a more constructive and positive way to spend your time- like advocating men for issues that you find in common with them. I'll advocate for the OP and other victims of abusers who may or may not have AS. There is a possibility that the correlation in her parents behaviour and AS exist, so get over it, Shiggily. Only the OP knows how her parents act, and no one has said concretely that they believe that AS is the reason why they have chosen to treat her the way that they do. If you think the thread should be locked, go elsewhere instead of contributing to it.

I have to agree with this to some extent, Shiggily. You really seem to have flown off the handle here and hurled a lot of accusations as to the original intentions of the OP(especially considering all your claims in that overly extensive PPR thread).
I can certainly see why some would take personal offense to statements in the original post like "I sometimes wonder if a man with AS and/or ADD can make a good father."
But the question at the end, "Could AS be driving this sort of behavior on my parents part?" is open ended. Posters added in their experiences, which pretty much add up to the obvious conclusion that one doesn't seem to lead to the other. Nothing wrong with that.
It also seemed to be implied that her fathers' actions were probably a result of many factors of his personality, possible AS included if it was indeed present. Nothing wrong with that either.
The contents of this thread should certainly be approached with caution, but not censored.
I can't validate taking a personal offense to this type of statement, but I definitely see how it is misconstrued. The OP doesn't have any parenting experience with other AS or ADD fathers than her own. How would she know what other fathers with AS and/or ADD are like? The question implies that she wouldn't know if a father could be good with either or both conditions. She isn't making remarks that show she believes one could be, or can't be, a good father with AS and/or ADD. It's more an invitation for good AS and/or ADD fathers or their children, to reassure the Forum that they can be good at it, and to share any personal insight and reassurance, as well as express solidarity with the OP. Taking offense to that kind of statement is immature and uncalled for in this thread. A simple, "Yes they can, and I am a good example of one" would suffice for a mature and reasonable response. I haven't seen anyone consider just reassurance without taking offense to defend themselves yet. It's all about throwing stones at a victim and sensationalizing her personal questions due to lack of debatable quality. Not every discussion is meant to be a silly formatted intellectual debate or line by line battle of opinion. I think it's openly honest to wonder about altruistic and out of reach circumstances (from herself) after a lifetime of struggle with an issue like the OP has faced- it's a very normal process and has shown evidence that she doesn't already believe that AS and/or ADD men are all bad fathers. I don't think she said anything wrong or offensive. I just don't like it when people attack victims for talking about how they feel and expressing themselves and their experiences. You can't debate someone else's past or make them less valid or relevant to their own discussion.
Unless any of you can provide actual studies confirming AS with child molestation I suggest you stop.

I need to get a grip on my emotions? bwhahahahahahahaaaaaa
goodness, it has been a really long time since anyone has ever said that to me.
As for your continued speculations (probably emotionally based). Yes, only the OP knows how her parents act. But she cannot diagnose AS. So we are back to square 1... unsubstantiated rumors. And yeah people here have done some serious statements over the idea that they think AS causes paedophilia (or is strongly correlated, or that paedophiles are all secretly undiagnosed male Aspies). And I can stay and refute your nonsense as much as I would like.
So while there is a minute possibility that there could be a correlation between AS and paedophilia (and AS and penis size, and AS and love of the color yellow, and AS and chicken nuggets) there is also a minute possibility that monkeys will fly out of your butt. I think we should start a thread about it. Since all we need is a minute possibility to make it "fact" or "concrete" enough for you.

The OP states that her father "had no formal diagnosis" but " "I personally feel it was AS and ADD together" and then asks "Could AS be driving this sort of behavior on my parents part"
You responded
"He likely had AS and found sexual inappropriateness his only outlet for excess energy"
"Men who get offended by stories like yours because they share the same disability as a pedophile, AS"
"It is common, but as we all know, not the rule for AS men"
"I DO believe that a correlation can be made between some people with AS traits and pedophilia, as some traits of some AS males and some pedophiles are the same"
"some pedophiles have either diagnosed or undiagnosed AS"
"creepy pedophilic parents with undiagnosed AS"
additionally you are attacking people who are disagreeing that there is a causal link between men and AS and pedophilia.

Shiggily, you can't just piece together statements out of context and out of order to make the discussion imply thoughts that it did not originally imply. You need to reread the entire thread, and start trying to understand what people here mean when they discuss this type of issue. You are absolutely out of line with this type of accusation about what I wrote and what it meant. You can't make the thread posters discussions mean what you want them to mean because you feel like arguing. Cutting and pasting sentence fragments from different lines of a paragraph is a poor attempt at logic, and insults your intelligence, not mine. Get over it. Anyone who reads the thread all the way through will see that you are just ridiculous. The OP's dad is likely to have AS, Shiggily. It's no different than my dad likely having it, or someone else, undiagnosed, who acts A-typical. Women discuss their fathers on here all the time, whether diagnosed or not, because there is a big chance that they DO have it if their kid(s) have it, and they (the dads) have had symptoms their whole life. Pedophiles can have AS too, AS doesn't discriminate against child molesters, rapists, murderers, and other criminal types. Any time a person with a behavioural disorder commits a crime, the disorder is a factor in the motive or reason for the crime. A pedophile has AS, it is likely, the AS was a contributing factor to the pedophilia in some way, whether undiagnosed, or diagnosed. On both sides of the coin, its the same argument. The only question is whether someone is guilty or less guilty because of AS if the commit a crime and they have AS. I'm not going to give you the kind of attention that you are looking for, so just grow up.

Shiggily, this is an informal discussion board and threads are not meant to be taken as seriously as you take them. There isn't anyway to prove anything new about AS from a single personal account discussion. No one was really trying to prove anything. All we wanted to do was share our opinions based on our own stories and the stories of others. Opinions about the OP's father that differ from her own, from people whom have never met him, don't matter to the thread. She believes he has AS and ADD. Ok. There is a likelihood of it. The OP has been diagnosed with AS, thus reveals the likelihood. She has personal experience and shared experience with both parents to verify reasons for the assumption made. This is called common sense. It may be Aspie common sense, but it is still insightful and probably a good guess to her father's condition. I have made a guess about my own father. WP is here for people to write about these kinds of opinions, not try to invalidate people for having them after spending their lives dealing with situations where they could not discuss these issues. You want the thread locked. You don't want anyone to talk about pedophiles with AS. Why don't you start a thread and show us all how you think these experiences should be discussed. Your personal discussion manner preference seems to matter more to you than your actual opinions, those you seem to be afraid of almost entirely. Opinions don't have to be proven, but you should learn to respect them.
A-typical does not equal AS. The DSM has hundred of different mental, developmental, and psychological disorders that have random symptoms similar to AS but are not AS. Her father could be any number of OTHER things besides AS. And it is silly to walk around saying, he is likely AS and she is likely AS and they are likely AS, just because they act a-typical.
are all schizophrenics AS too? serial killers? necrophiliacs? learning disabled?
Are you going to find a new link between cerebral palsy and pedophilia? CP and AS?
Why don't we just say everyone with anything a-typical has AS? toss diagnoses out the window and rely on our gut instincts.
