so no one cares what I do for a job.

I'm still a student at the moment, but when I leave uni, I want to work for GCHQ in the cryptography department. That's one of very few places where I can actually use pure maths in a practical environment.

I have been a mechanical engineer for 17 years. My previous job that I held for 15 years was a nightmare. I worked with a bunch of yuppie NT pretty boys who hated me with a vengeance. If you didn't conform to their version of reality then you were immediately ostracized. Fortunately that company was so horribly managed that I was able to slip through the cracks. My current job involves designing very complex machines for the fiberglass industry. I get to work by myself for very long periods of time. I am considered an expert with the CAD software that is used so I get to do what I want.

I actually enjoy working with the operaters who use the machines I design because they are people from the fringes of society. Most of these people are ex-cons or motorcycle gang members. It wouldn't surprise me at all if most of them are Aspies too. Those guys are great because there is no BS at all. If you are honest and show them respect they will do the same for you.
