Alexander Graham Bell is quoted as saying "The operation was a success, but the patient died".

What was he doing operating on people? I thought he just invented telephones for a living.

Alec created many other things even though he is best known for inventing the telephone. He developed an early version of a metal detector which he used to locate the bullet in US President James A Garfield, after he had been shot.

Well I never. Maybe it was all that multi-tasking that put him off his stroke when he operated.

Elisha Gray never invented a metal detector, but he did invent the musical telegraph and the idea of a liquid transmitter in the telephone.

Bell became aware of this, added a description of the liquid transmitter into his telephone patent and is considered the inventer of the telephone, even though it appears Gray is at least co-inventer.

Gray also invented the telautograph, for transmitting handwriting through telegraph systems.

Meanwhile Bell just sexually harassed his assistant and threw to Conway Twitty.

Actually, the OP was a just quote I read while at the museum yesterday. Alec was able to get the detector to work but unable to find the bullet lodged in James Garfield's body. Also the metal of the bed Garfield was laying on disturbed the detector, and the doctors were skeptical and ignored Alec's requests to move the president to a bed that didn't contain metal. It was mainly the doctor's fault James Garfield died of a horrible infection later.

Alexander Graham Bell was a great man. He did all kinds of things to help deaf people live better lives. It's just too bad the poor old guy's probably rolling in his grave from the way people use smartphones these days.

I love all animals except monkeys. I don't know what it is about monkeys, I just don't feel the same way about them like I do with all other animals.

...what a "spicy pillow" is.

When a lithium ion battery, having swollen up like a pillow, explodes into flames which are virtually impossible to extinguish:

Someone who I always imagined was about my age or even a bit older has turned out to be almost 20 years younger than me

It all makes sense now
