Why do people like me but not enough to keep me around?

Sometimes I make a best friend at work or something we'll go out well do some stuff then in a short space of time they stop contacting me or act distant. Or I might make an acquaintance somewhere and when I attempt to arrange a meet up out side of work (for example) they don't want to know. A good example of this is when I lived in supported living and made a few acquaintances/friends and now I live by myself and I tried arranging to see them but they either don't answer the phone or they just generally give me the cold shoulder. I don't think I smell so what is it?!
