I know you are supposed to ignore people like that, but it's hard too. So how do you deal with them?

Are any of the people who think you're a loser losers themselves?

I've known people in my life who may have thought I was a loser that I thought were major losers themselves. So......I didn't really care.

I don't. Instead, I focus on being successful.

For example, on a previous job, there were over twenty of us working production. I was the lead QA Engineer, while all but two others on the floor were assemblers. Because I had to write daily reports to management regarding flaws, faults, and rejects, I had to work through lunch and after the production shift was over. Those reports often resulted in reprimands (and the occasional dismissal). I was either their very best friend ("Please, don't report this! Pleeeez?!") or an a$$-kissing traitor.

Of course, they were the usual roughnecks and boozers, and they also called me things like "loser", "f*gg*t", and "r*t*rd" because I couldn't socialize with them or brag about my sexual activities (I was way too busy). I kept honing my skills, reading the manuals, and keeping copious notes on statistical trends and other details while they goofed off, played practical jokes, and showed no concern for the lack of quality in their work.

Then we were all called onto the floor for a general meeting. The company had been sold, and the production staff had been made redundant -- all except me. None of it mattered. I had my job and they didn't. The next day, I had the whole assembly area to myself, until the new owners showed up around noon. By the following Monday, I was training a new set of workers. After six months, I turned in my resignation and got a better job.

Nobody is a "loser" and nobody is a "winner"

The words are too vague

Everyone sometimes wins and sometimes loses

Some people base their whole identity on what other people think -- that's why they think of themselves as "losers". Successful people base their identities on what they themselves think, do, and say, and could not care less about what other people think.

Most people who think we're losers are the losers, except that they always seem to "win".

Fnord,

Those people you describe are the losers. They are slackers and talk about anything other than the job at hand, and deserve to be fired. You are a winner because you do your work and do it with attention to detail.

There's a certain order in this post, but here it goes:
Yeah, ignore them. As much as you can do whatever you want, you can always leave them, go high in indulgence... Out of sight, out of mind so to speak.

Or fight them with compensations. Prove them wrong. Be motivated by that. You get to change by other people's input be it good or bad. Conquer your fears and face them off. Resolve them. Find more people that are more relatable to you.

Or as some posters said it: focus at improving and be successful. Develop discipline and skills. Change your life with your own hands and willpower. Be someone who can stand up for yourself.

Or be true to yourself, let go of certain labels and expectations about yourself and others. Just enjoy life as it is instead of wanting and looking at the wrong places.

I think they are losers themselves. I'm a warrior. I'm a phoenix. I fall and stand up stronger.
I genuinely believe anyone who needs to bring someone down to feel better about themself is a pitiful loser, no matter how successful they may appear on the outside.

I move into their house and eat their food.

Play their console and smoke their weed during the day, while they work and slave for money to pay rent and buy food for me.

I know that I am a loser to them but I do NOT consider myself a loser. I know I cant really prove otherwise to those people so I do my best to ignore them. I have nothing to lose & nothing to prove to them.

Exactly, Magz.
