Fodder for the Maga fanatics another dog whistle for them to sink their hate into, and a distraction from the Trump's breakup from Elon Musk. Acts of spite are hardly new from Trump, who was probably behind this.

Harvy Milk was an incredibly brave man to achieve what he did and when he achieved it. I doubt that he is widely known about in the generations born after his death, though maybe someone in the US could comment on that for me? Trump and his servants can ban all sorts of things but not history.

Harvey Milk was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (SF's city council), one of the first openly LGBTQ+ politicians in the US at the time (1978). There had been some who weren't out, were outed, or were speculated to be LGBTQ+ (the most notable of these was James Buchanan, our 15th president).

Dan White was a former Board member, who resigned due what he considered to be corruption in the city government. He lobbied to get his job back, but then-mayor George Moscone denied his reinstatement. White assassinated Moscone and Milk in response.

Of course, it's going beyond Milk, with Hegseth wanting to remove the names of Harriet Tubman and others who don't fit the far right's definition of an American (non white, or non straight, or non male, etc.) from ships or military installations. But he has no trouble with Confederate traitors.

I'm more concerned what the replacement names would be.

Timothy McVeigh? Richard Butler? Jesse Helms? Bull Connor?

Kegsbreath is probably hoping for the USS Martyrs of Nuremberg.
