Hi,

I have very mild asperger syndrome. I prefer to be with neuro typical people or some people with very mild asperger syndrome. I want to fulfil my potential. Generally I find it hard to talk "autistic people" and find them hard to interact with. I accept them but feel alienated from autistic people generally.

Welcome to WP. I like both NT and AS people. I think NT can be more fun to hang out with although every NT and AS person is different and there's advantages and disadvantages with each person.

I have very mild AS. I am open to friendships with NTs and Aspies, but I prefer other Aspies when it comes to dating.

Tim

Mine is pretty mild too, though I don't really care if my peers are NT or AS. If I want to talk about something really weird and obscure, my AS friends are there for me, but a lot of my NT ones are too. I have really good experiences with both Aspies and neurotypicals; I just get uncomfortable if I'm with strangers.

Tho I have a 20 year old diagnosis of autism I have had since I was 4.5, I very much qualify more as AS now. Anyways I have all NT friends and have only met one autistic who was medium functioning, and he was a 8 when I was 18. I dont mind whether or not someone is AS/HFA or NT, if they are a good person and I get along with them, then I want them as a friend. I wish their were more people on the spectrum in my life, unfortunatly all I see daily (except dad, tho he is un DX'ed ASpie) are NT's and I really want a little more nurodiversity in my life.

Why come here then?

There are plenty of forums where you will meet lots of NT people.

I understand where you're coming from because I am closer to NT than many people here. Sometimes it gets hard for me to relate to people who are further on the spectrum. Unlike many on this board I have been able to have friends, hold a job, live on my own independently, and function to a certain extent to the same level as NT folk. However, I do have some of the social skills challenges that others on this list do. And I often get very frustrated because I am so close to being NT, yet I realize that I fall short in a few areas. It's like almost being where you want to be, but just being pushed back every time. So I can relate to what you are saying.

I like both. NTs perceive me as normal for a month or so but by the time they start to see my quirks they've come to like my personality. Aspies are just fun to hang out with, and have the best conversations. Like Tim said, I prefer aspies for dating because theres less drama.
