It seems from so many indepandant sources, from the ancient myans, to merlin, to nostradamus, to an finacial data web crawler, there is going to be cataclymic event in 2012 thougths.

I thought it ended with Y2K in the year 2000.

I also thought that Merlin was fictional, that Nostradamus is cryptic, and the Mayan calendar merely enters a new cycle. But I might be wrong.

As am optimist, I'd prefer to think it might be the beginning of a new era. A mass awakening or something.

Having said that, none of the supposed apocalyptic stuff for 2000 panned out, so maybe people have just chanced on the next 'significant' date they could find...

Yes, I seem to hear that everywhere, regardless of the mystical tradition... It's very strange.

I knew 2000 was going to be a non issue, because it seemed no one except computer people were talking about how all computers were going to collapse, and frankly I never understood why, even when they would explain it to me in detail.

I never heard that 2000 would be anything significant in any mystical tradition, but 2012 is talked about by every spiritual person I know, and they're not weird people with diapers begging for money in airports or crackpot Scientologists, these are very sane people who told me about 2012, and that somehow we would "ascend" to another dimension where everything happens at the speed of your thoughts, so you should start being quite careful about the bulk of your thoughts. You can already kinda see how we're moving very fast right now towards this, with technology, how so many things can happen at the click of a button through the internet, search engines, youtube, etc... The instant you think about something, you type it in and boom it's there, albeit in two dimensional form, although music is there in its complete form because we're dealing with wavelenghts and vibrations.

"As above so below" is something you hear in every solid mystical tradition.

I'm personally not evolved enough spiritually to feel these things, but it does appear that 2012 is a marker in our evolution as a race, either through a mass awakening or an ascension to a higher dimension caused by a sudden change in polarities...

Wouldn't put too much money on that outcome. On that note, $10 gets you $500 if the world ends between 01/01/12 and 12/31/12... any takers?

But nothing in this thread is about conspiracy theories.

The popular belief that aliens will colonize earth in 2012 is a conspiracy theory.

No, it is a baseless theory. It does not require conspirators to be believed and ergo is more of a faith article.

There are many books out there that talk about 2012.

Another fact is that the 2012 Summer Olympics
will happen in London. Maybe there is some sort of connection
between 2012 and the London Bombings of two years ago?

Well personally I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the state of things around 2010 and 2011. The Web crawlers have also predicted something on the scale of a limited nuclear war around 2008 or 2009. As of now it doesn't seem immanent, but we still got over a year before the timeframe expires and a lot can change then.

Guys, I would like to be able to continue to pretend this forum is for serious business, but you aren't making it any easier for me.

I thought that, in the 90s, those same sources were cited for the end of the world in 2000. Maybe I'm wrong. I didn't take notes.

2012 could be the end of the world if you start now and dig a BIG hole, fill it with gunpowder and toss in a match at the proper time. Ok, ok I stole that from a "Wonder Wart-hog" episode.

2012 is when Obama leaves office, and the gates of hell appear on Earth, with the famous words inscribed on the arch: "Abandon hope, ye who enter here"...

Sorry, I couldn't resist cracking an Obama joke...
