It depends on the group. We have been participating in a fairly casual social club for the kids that is put together by the parents. Not much discussion of diagnoses or anything like that, just wanting to facilitate social opportunities for our kids who sometimes get left out of their peers social d...

Ah, my middle child. I think it is related to poor muscle tone around the mouth, which is tied to the speech issues. Not only his clothing, but the surroundings of where he has eaten, so we try to keep eating in the kitchen.

I cannot speak for everyone, but we were pretty accurate with self-diagnoses here. Now we have the best diagnoses that money can buy .... and I miss the money. |

There are pros and cons to either situation. With the exception of one year, we have had one or more children at home for the past 7 years, and all three have been home for the past two years. If you have just one child, I think homeschooling is a lot simpler. Social outings are easy to find or arra...

All military branches place a high priority on the ability to effective mirror everyone around you all of the time. By definition of the biggest deficits for everyone on the autistic spectrum. Just ask yourself two questions. Can I look like I am doing exactly what everyone else around me is doing ...

A little bit of fatalism can be a healthy thing. IMO it is delusional to believe one is in control of every aspect of existence. The trick is knowing what must be accepted and what can be changed.

I have a lifetime of experience with some one who requires everything be done in a very specific way, and this trait does not seem to diminish with time. There is a big difference between having very specific ways of doing things personally and requiring that everyone else do things in that same way...

20ish is the first neural die off. Brain cells live about 20 years. What doesn't get passed on fades away. Your unique way of thinking and being will persist, but some of the things you haven't been doing, probably intentionally, will be left behind. So now I am 45 and have been through another tran...

More than once a person has been irritated with me for not manipulating them into doing something I asked them to do. I honestly do not get this, but apparently there is a bargaining process whereby one person convinces another to do things that are the correct things to do anyway. I don't think I w...
