My ADD has always been a much larger influence on my life than my late recognized autism. I was a feral child and asked for forgiveness rather than permission for the most part. I appreciate rules implied by immediate logic rather than preset. I don't think I'd do anything if I waited to understand ...

I agree about the overlap, but my question was because ADHD traits/symptoms did not fully point to my life experiences. I knew when I heard about adult ADHD in the mid to late '70's that it mirrored my life exactly although I was never hyperactive in the typical sense. Autism answers a whole separat...

I was diagnosed with severe ADHD inattentive type back around 2000, at age 45 or so. I became aware that my life experiences seem to match autistic experiences during a therapy session back in 2023. I've had an intake session with a psychologist a couple of months ago and go for an official evaluati...

Congratulations on your diagnosis. Totally understand the sense of relief and am looking forward to my final evaluation next week. I had my intake interview with the psychologist a couple of months ago and get my full evaluation next Tuesday. The psychologist told me as I was leaving the intake sess...

I am the opposite of verbal. My mind is processing multiple channels at once and any distraction can insert a node mid-sentence and I have to reconstruct back to the node and start back down the right path. I am notorious for too-frequent pauses in my speech. My mind is going all of the time, but as...

The truth is, I don't know if I was popular in school. I ended up getting the woman of my dreams so I guess I was ok. I had a friend group but had to insert myself into it rather than being invited. My social world has actually grown in the time since I first had an indication that my life experienc...

I have no idea how popular it is but ran across in on the cable index the other day and watched about 20 minutes before I had to leave to run errands. It is classic. The idea of being savant is fascinating. I understand that Raymond's character was based on some actual savant.

I found out in my mid-sixties that my life's experiences matched those of people on the spectrum. I do think people saw me as odd and overly reserved but i don't think they'd have considered autism as a cause. I'm wondering how unusual my experience is amongst those here.

i think my adhd outweighs my autism so i have a number of special interests but I'd say my main special interest is "input". I have this craving to absorb data on everything and I've been like that my whole life. it makes it hard to become proficient at anything.

I was 66 or 67 years old when i first mentioned to my therapist that my lifelong disconnect from people made me feel "like i'm autistic". She pretty much affirmed my off-the-cuff statement. Since that day a couple of years ago, I have been watching videos and reading what I can and find th...
