It pisses me off every time someone talks about ASD in relation to an act of violence. It was the same thing with the shooting in Aurora. No one seems to understand what Aspergers really is. I would really hate for the media to sensationalize this to the point that people will be afraid to go near s...

My boyfriend is an Aspie and I don't mind that he needs to look away during conversations. I get why you'd want to be able to return the gesture, though. Maybe if you pick a spot like the space between her eyes, or something similar, you can start there. I think it's great that she knows about you b...

My partner just got officially diagnosed with Aspergers a few days ago. His parents thought the same way that you describe. He has a cousin who is on the opposite end of the spectrum and needs a guardian, etc to take care of him, so to them, the word "autism" only meant that. The neuropsychologist e...

I think it's absolutely bullsh**. I wonder sometimes if insurance companies are in bed with the people who decide this crap. How can you say it doesn't exist? Apparently under the new revisions only 45% of the highest functioning people with autism would even be considered autistic. It makes me angr...

I understand what you mean. I am still working through my PTSD and I have often felt guilty when I started having flashbacks, etc in front of my partner. Sometimes he will touch me or do something and I will start screaming...it's a gut reaction. What is so hard about PTSD is that the guilt makes yo...

I can see why someone might view certain Aspie behaviors as selfish or self-centered, but I think a counselor or psychologist worth their salt would know the difference. However, as a counselor myself...I can say that there seem to be a lot of counselors and psychologists out there who aren't terrib...

I never had any issues with Zoloft or Wellbutrin as far as weight gain. That was a huge concern of mine too. Abilify made me so freaking hungry, though. I was eating all the time and couldn't seem to get enough food. The psychiatrist told me that shouldn't have been the case, but it was enough to ge...

I was on 5mg of Abilify at one point to help me with some hallucinations I was having. It made me hungrier than I have ever felt in my life...but at the same time it did help with the hallucinations and after a short time they did go away.

A couple of days ago in the supermarket, just by chance, I overheard two women speaking about aspergers: "If you were preganant with an Asperger, would you abort it?" "Oh yes, I wou... |

Hi everyone, First of all, pardon me if I'm ignorant. I just have a question. My partner is an Aspie and I'm NT. We're just starting to understand how AS plays out in his life, and I'm curious about something. I noticed a while back that he picks his skin all the time. He'll use nail clippers every ...

It broke my heart that prior to his diagnosis, I used to see some of his behavior as being "selfish" or rude, when actually it was just par... |

I've been thinking about this lately. I feel like when our time comes we will get what we get and just be okay with it. I feel like if we have an Aspie child, then at least their dad (who is an Aspie) will be able to understand some of the things that I may not. I also wonder sometimes if we have a ...

I completely disagree with that and find it insulting. I've been in a relationship with an Aspie for 5.5 years and I can ASSURE you that I'm not his maid, housekeeper, financial manager, sex toy, etc, as that person described. He pulls his fair share of the weight in our house and takes responsibili...

I'm a 24 year old NT in a long-term relationship with a 26-year old Aspie. We've been together for 5.5. years and some of the things I most love about him are some of the things that make him an Aspie. I love that he's so passionate about specific topics, since some people live their lives with what...
