I'm curious if anyone could tell me what kinds of experiences they've had with this drug. My son was just prescribed this, and we were given a trial run for three weeks. How long did it take to see any effects? What were side effects? Any information would be great.

I was very cautious about medication, but I started taking Zoloft for anxiety/depression a few months ago and the benefits far outweighed my anxiety about it.

I went up to 100mg and took that for a couple of months no side effects. Right now I have put it on hold because I'm trying a different type of drug and I decided didn't want to take both at the same time while I check that out.

Strattera hasn't helped my concentration, planning and executive of yet. I did notice some very subtle effect in language. As to whether it was the strattera that caused it I don't know but regardless I don't really need to improve my verbal side. I'd only stick with because that might be a sign of things to come. It is a drug with quite a slow onset. It might take a while to notice an effect in your son.

If it works Strattera seems to be a better option than stimulant drugs, which don't really have any long term benefit.

my son has been on for about a month and we have not noticed any results on focus and attention. The dr is increasing his dose this week. We were told to not anticipate any changes for a month or longer as it has to build up in his system. Good luck!! !

I took it for months and did not realize any difference attributable to the med.
I quit taking it on my own and this is the last drug of that kind I have taken.
We went up in dosage but I do not remember what we started at or where we finished at.

My former wife started on Zoloft and said she felt AMAZINGLY better... which sorta sucks to me because everyone who feels this sort of immediate relief makes me wonder what the heck is wrong with me that none of the meds so far has made me feel so 'profoundly different'!

I'm glad her 'Vitamin Z', as she calls it, works for her... I just wish sometimes that I could take a pill and have everything be better too.

Our son has been taking Strattera for almost 5 months now. What we "think" we see as a benefit is some improved social skills, but there is NO improvement with organizational skills or paying attention in class. The pediatrician has added Concerta to the mix (I get impression that the standard is to use Strattera in conjunction with another ritalin-type med), but even with the Concerta, we see no improvement. We are going to call the pediatrician this week and ask for a change (probably to Adderall, which is what I've seen as something that helps people on the spectrum).

I was under the impression that Strattera is supposed to take three or four weeks to take effect. That's partially the beauty of this drug, is that it is a gentle drug. We have had no side effects from it, but we've also seen very little benefit.

If I remember from my experience with Adderall, it may cause a bit of an upset stomach feeling initially, but it disappates over time.

I'm pretty sure it was the Adderall and not the Strattera or the Lexapro I was on for a short time (the last drug I took).

Now that I am through with my divorce, and my work schedule has settled down, I find that I am actually doing pretty well without any meds.
I now have an old PDA a friend gave me and that has been a great help, although true-to-form I haven't looked at it for a couple of days.
Part of that is the fact that school is out for me and I'm off work until next week, so I know I don't have any appointments or timed events to remember.

For me, I think reducing stress and distractions, and finding the right tool(s) to help schedule my time, is what has helped more than any of the meds I tried before.

I still could do better, but I had a very successful semester this time... I didn't flunk any classes!.

I hope the meds help, but I also hope you all find other things that help too.

I really like seeing parents involved in helping their kids... you all are great! :thumright:

In my case, I've been on almost all attention meds, and Straterra is supposed to work if the other ones work, but it didn't work on me either.
