had a scary experience
I got tired a couple of hours ago so I went to bed for a nap and I got trapped in a hideous nightmare where I could hardly breathe or see where I was going as my vision kept blacking out, I fumbled around and grabbed the pavement to find my way around and it was so terrifying, I thought I was dying, at some points I realised I was in a dream but I couldn't make myself wake up.
When I finally managed to wake up I still felt so afraid and couldn't breathe well. I took a small dosage of sedative a little while ago to help me calm down enough to breathe better and all I can do now is cry.
I feel desperate, helpless and alone. My parents live nearby but their both away for a few weeks.
do you know anyone else nearby, aunts or friends? hopefully they are not too far away.
i haven't had an unpleasant dream like that in years now, but i do remember mine well. most of the scariness factor was mostly visual, like men made of marshmallows or similar texture/ripple pattern. that used to scare me. deep booming noises deep into the ear and huge chasms still make me uncomfortable but they don't appear in my dreams anymore.
to me, your inability to breathe or gain a firm foothold seems like a reflection of how tired you are, but take that with a grain of salt. what were you doing that made you so tired? that does sound like sleep paralysis though i've never experienced it, you were at least able to move, though still terrifying.
i recall only one dream where i actually knew how to wake myself since i knew i was dreaming, and that was to force my eyes tightly shut...

Did you eat cheese before going to sleep? Cheese tends to cause nightmares, example below:

If you are 'aware' you are in a dream it is considered a lucid dream, a trick i learned was to blink your eyes in this instance if you want to wake up.
Sounds like your more afraid of being alone than anything else, you move out recently? Make plans to see friends or family who are around weekly, will help minimize isolation.
As for sedation medication, it's not a cure, you might just need some time to adjust to the new environment, join up to a social group (face to face ones) or a hobby to better improve on not feeling alone.

They did not say its a 'cure' they said they took some to calm down...I imagine chances are they are prescribed this sedative for that kind of purpose. I have valium for panic/anxiety attacks to take as needed and it can provide much needed relief....of course its not a cure but its better than feeling scared out of your mind for no real immediate reason...that is exhausting. Of course adjusting to new environments and potentially gaining social connections or getting into a hobby can also help ones state of being.
