Do you have difficulty comprehending what people say sometimes even though you hear them?

I think that's called Auditory Processing Disorder, and can also be part of ADHD (according to people I know who have ADHD; who knows, maybe they're aspies and don't know it) or just its own thing. It's when you have APD, dysgraphia, you're bad at math, you have a persistent social learning disability, and can spot a four-leaf clover in your peripheral vision that you may want to start considering autism.

I am both shy and have AS

In fact I was painfully shy when younger. Boy did I blush. My heart pounded when I met people. If I saw someone I knew I would cross the street etc. to avoid talking to them. If I met a girl I would blush, sweat like crazy then run away.

When I got older I addressed my shyness. I helped found two social anxiety groups in my area. It was then that I realized I was still different from the social anxiety people. They just did not have the same disconnect in their thought process which I had or the sensory or emotional communication issues.

Actually working on my social anxiety allowed my AS self to shine through as it was once hidden behind a veil of shyness. Now instead of being known as the shy one, I am proud to have evolved into a slighty quiet eccentric.
