I've been complimented on having "high cheekbones" a few times. I don't actually have them. I just fake them with makeup and facial expressions. It just hurts that I don't actually have them. I actually have no facial definition.

Doesn't really hurt my feelings, but it does annoy me sometimes.

People often compliment on how tall I am, even though I'm only 5 foot 6. Even people who are the same height or a little taller still say that I'm tall.

Being tall is supposed to be 'nice', like some sort of advantage. So being called tall is not deemed offensive, but I do wish I was smaller, just by a couple of inches.

If they truly believe you have high cheek bones, it's not "fake." It's a misconception.

I get irritated by truly fake compliments, too.

I don't really find it too irritating. I find it nice that someone went out of their way to compliment me.
Joke compliments though, those hurt my feelings.

When someone compliments me about something I'm not proud of, I still respond politely because I know that they are nice to go out of their way to compliment.

Yeah...I do that, too.

Still: if somebody compliments me for something which I don't have, or a trait which I don't possess, then it can seem pretty fake.

I dislike compliments in general… Or is it the people?
