Ear Sensitivity mistaken for ADHD?
When I was growing up, my ear sensitivity was mistaken for ADHD... did this happen to anyone else? For example, I hear everything. Literally everything. When my siblings and I moved in with a lady that my mother met at rehab, we were all put on ritalin for adhd. However, I don't have add or adhd at all. What it is, is that I would hear everything and point it out for others to see/ notice. As I have gotten older, I have stopped pointing these things out to others and only mention them if they are threatening (Aggressive looking dog coming down the street). Did anyone else have something like this happen to them?
How stupid of them to think I had one thing (ADHD) when I had a completely different thing (AS). But I guess, when you are trying to dope up the kids, that's probably bound to happen.

I read an article written by a doctor who said that the majority of children referred to him by parents thinking their child had ADHD actually had hearing problems. He said he got to the point where he would just test the hearing of every patient referred to him before he would even look in to ADHD.
I actually had a hearing test done when I was living with our mother's friend. They said that my hearing was fine... But I think they just tested to make sure I was not deaf or HoH.. And so the fact that I could hear everything seemed "good" or "normal" to the testers....

I was diagnosed with ADD because I had attention problems in school and a short attention span. What was actually going on was my brain could not process the information because it was going too fast than what I was hearing. I did get distracted in class and from my own thoughts too. I question if I had ADD or not. I know I cannot listen for long periods of the time because it gets me tired and my brain can't handle all the listening and lectures.
Yes when you have really good hearing (above normal hearing) they will say your hearing is normal and it will be tested at normal.
Doing a hearing test on each child to rule it out sounds good. That is what doctors should be doing with every condition, ruling things out first before deciding what the patient has.
