Do you experience this?
I'm not native english speaker but most of the time i cannot remember a word in my own language and stand there trying to remember during speech. Sometimes i know what I'm trying to say but my brain cannot find the word or my brain finds the word but my mouth doesn't want to cooperate.Because i can't remember the word or cannot just say it i have to say something else instead. I don't necessarily go mute but i pause and because of all these and i sound ridiculous. Do you also experience this? or something similar?
I can relate.
It's so easy to know what I want to say when I hear someone else talking.
Then when it's my turn to speak, unless I've rehearsed it,
I might get quiet because I need time to think of the right words,
and by the time I'm ready ...
someone else has taken over the conversation.
yeah. often. sometimes makes one wonder whether he really is fluent after all.
i think of it as an ability to say only a limited amount of words at any given time, and if i speak too quickly or if i get far to passionate in a conversation, i run out of words, and i stumble. what you describe occurs.
i find that it is easier to just speak more slowly. each sentence gets just a little more processing time.

I believe the OP's problem has more to do with knowing different languages rather than having to think of how to respond in a conversation. It sounds like the trouble has to do with having two separate vocabularies, one in English and one in your native language. How often do you speak in English vs your native language? It's possible that using two different languages can cause a bit of confusion. Another possibility is if you mainly speak English for most of your daily life, your trouble might be caused by being out of practice with your original language. I don't have personal experience with this, since I only know English, but it's a strong possibility that your issue has something to do with being bilingual. More information will help with getting to the root of your trouble and with providing better suggestions.
