Is this the type of cognitve error aspies are known to make?

I was reading an article about President Bush, here is the except: "The public got a tiny glimpse of his [Bush's] softer side when Jenna married Henry Hager in May. Bush said afterward that his little girl married a really good guy. First lady Laura Bush says her husband now has a son," and when I read that last sentence the first thoughts that came to my mind were "what, Laura Bush gave birth to a baby boy? I must have misread the article, that's implausible." and "hold on, I thought Bush only had two daughters." Two or three seconds later I realized that Laura Bush was speaking metaphorically, and was referring to their daughter's husband when she said that Bush now has a son. Is this the type of mistakes aspies are known to make or is this just being stupid?

i didnt do that in this case but it sounds alot like something i would do....lol

No I don't think it's a cognitive error that Aspies are necessarily prone to making. What I learned in English class in high school was that vague possessive pronoun usage (i.e. "her husband") was simply poor English, not the fault of the reader.

No, that line you italicized is just poorly written and misleading.

That statement could mean that George Bush has a new son, and it could also mean that their daughter's husband now has a son, neither meaning being correct.

George Bush gave birth to a boy?

I often read things to quickly and skip words and often makes mistakes like that.

no. i would not make that error in that case. But often i have to read things a few times if something is unclear. and then i try to piece the meaning together. not in that example, however.

Yeah, it happens all the time. It can be a useful trait to have if you are an editor, however.

I know exactly what you are talking about. If the speaker does not use the exact words to get the precise meaning across you may run into a problem understanding what the speaker is actually saying. I have this also and I think this is related to being able to comprehend something in your mind as a picture better than hearing it spoken.
