What would you want in a book?
What would you want in a book?
remember these are only a few possiblitys that may or may not get used.
personally.... I want something like this...
Unique characters... maybe artwork showing them? on the cover and on some pages.
at least a few characters with disabliities. such as one with no eyesight (blind) or another disabliity (physical or mental)
an emoitional storyline.
a lot of action scenes. (gun fights... street races... brave heros stoping it)
the setting should be familier but not through out the whole book.
a decieving villian... could be related to a hero? maybe he's not really evil?
perhaps he is just trying to do whats right but goes about it the wrong way?
real life situations and insane fantasys put together. (like elves, vampires and aliens living along side humans?)
maybe a robot who has human feelings?
many different kinds of characters each with an important role.
And of course an epic battle leading to the final conclusion.... leaving room for a sequel.
just some things I think about when writing my book... there are many other ideas too.
So... what do you want in a book? anything stated above or something I missed?
could I borrow ideas to improve my book? it is a fiction book so it could use anything.
I won't take an idea if you tell me not to.
but don't be surprised if I already used an idea in my book that I came up with before knowing someone else had the idea fist.
the main character in my book is female becuase I feel they can be great main characters...
not to say males can't be the hero. i'm a man and I used to think the hero should be male. but it wasn't working out.
I'm thinking of posting a sample of my work that is not really a part of the main storyline.
how do you feel about this?
I don't really want anyone other than myself to write this, but I've long wanted to write a fantasy story that featured elves, orcs, and humans, but with each of these standard races having certain tropes subverted:
1. The elves won't be the noblest or most spiritual race. In fact many of them will be cruel and bigoted towards the other races. Also, while my elves might live a little longer than humans and orcs, they won't be immortal.
2. Conversely, my orcs won't be inherently evil. They'll still be tribal and warlike, but they can also be noble and honorable.
3. My humans will be black people rather than white people and their culture won't be based on the European Middle Ages.
Hold on... why can't there be both black humans and white humans?
I know that my book will have both.
this had better not turn into racism.
by the why... there are many different skin colors in the real world.
this topic is really about what you think would make a good book.
I'd like a book that has a typical adventure type storyline but has an underlying darkness to it and a very serious end. Something that would make me think when I finish reading it. I would like characters to be struggling with doing what they want to do and doing what is considered right....
