who are famous geek/nerd/dork?

Is there an official diagnosis of Bill Gates having Asperger's? What about say Wittengenstein or Nietzsche or Beethoveen, etc?

It would seem to me all high-IQ Aspies with focused interests in computers and physics should qualify as a geek/nerd

I guess its quite possible that he is!
Maybe he's even secretly on this forum 8O

I beleive the creator of BitTorrent is a self declared AS'er, not quite as famous, but still.

Beethoven is definitely believed to have had. So are Socrates and I believe, Nietzsche. I have heard that about Gates, but no idea if he was diagnosed.

To acquire a better understanding, it is important view people as coming between to extreme polar opposites extreme Neurotypical Syndrome and Asperger Syndrome. Everyone fits in this scale even some very NT like people can get one or two points on AS scale. The fact that bill gates has so many Aspie traits mean that more or less has more in common with Aspies then he does with Neurotypical.

At my workplace there is a geek girl, she look ten years younger then she really is, and she only has two sets of clothing, and she can talk for many hours about recycling. I don’t have to ponder too hard guess weather she has AS or not.

She is more AS then 99% of most woman I get a chance to know and because no one has really set the benchmark on when Neurotypical Syndrome and Asperger Start.

When my workmate Gemma says I don’t have Aspergers, this time I will say, that I am more aspie like then anyone in these offices, and more aspie then any of the road sweeper and recycling guys what does that say about me.

Oh, my goodness! do you mean ME??

well, I actually have THREE sets of clothing but I wear them seasonally, (so if you wern't here last year you didn't see my summer set) and it is not RECYCLING but Astrology I can talk about for hours. . . and my nick name is "you're too youthful" (from the YTY on my car licience plate.)

and yes, I am Aspie to the Bone!

and a disclaimer here, of course I am NOT who Aspie_Chav is writing about, unless he works at a Health Insurance company in the US Pacific NorthWest.

Wikipedia has a list, which really should be taken not too seriously (we all know the thing about user-edited content). I very much recall the case for filmmaker Steven Spielberg having an Asperger's diagnosis as well, although that information has been removed from IMDB.com and Wikipedia.

Many people have stated Bill Gates is an aspie
I believe it's likely but you never know.
I think it's almost certain considering his obsessive and socially awkward persona

Watch him rock.

***By the way, I am TOTALLY disgusted that the title of the clip is Bill Gates: Rainman

Because he is not similiar to Rainman.

In fact, many auties and aspies are plagued by that movie because that is how many in the general public view ASD's.

I don't think that it was a terrible movie, but I can not stand the question, "Oh, so you're like Rainman?" when someone finds out that you're on the Spectrum.

Ever since someone posted that daily show clip of him, I've been 99.9% sure that Gates is aspie. The way his eyes kind of fritter around while talking to Jon is exactly how my eyes act in conversation. Now I have a kind of subversive opinion of microsoft; whereas like most people I don't like companies getting too big, deep down someone's saying "hell yes, go Bill!" That's one point back for us.

With conjecture on who may or may not have it, I tend give claims of it the benefit of the doubt, because it is definately something that most celebrities wouldn't be eager to reveal about themselves; I know I wouldn't. To me it's a private and personal thing. So on Wikipedia they're never gonna let you put up people's names that are suspected without some kind of "hard proof" (man, those Wikipedians really annoy me, considering how they'll put for example Johnny Depp under "Cherokee American" because he, like every other white guy in the country, claims some kind of insignificant Native American ancestry, but are so much more "professional" when it comes to something like AS), and that's fine. There are very, very few people without AS that can understand the calling cards the way we can, I think. Another who I strongly believe has the syndrome is Andy Kaufman, and likewise they've removed mention of it in his article.

but, people LOVE Rainman!

I would much rather be assumed to be like someone people loved than to be thought of as someone that was a meltdown murderer.

Huh? What was that about Aspies looking younger? Is this why my ID keeps getting turned down?

Bill Gates is just a nerd. He wouldn't qualify for diagnosis. He apparently has a functional social life, and he's packing billions. That's not a disorder. That's evolution.

Griff,
Haven't you noticed your face doesn't age like others? People tell me about it and have for years. I always thought it was because I didn't raise children. . .but I look at least ten years younger than other people the same age as me, and THEY are the ones that tell me that!
I thought it was because I was less uptight than them, or just acted younger, naive really. .
I don't know what it is, but I look younger. Maybe other Aspies do too?

Socrates would approach all the intelligent people in his society and ask them what they thought about life then he would challenge their beliefs for hours or until they got sick of listening to him.

A lot of famous dead guys are thought to be AS or dyslexic or ADD but because they are dead we can only speculate based on the information we have on their lives but we can never diagnose them.

After all, there are other neurological conditions that share common traits with autism.

OCD, bipolar, Schizoid Personality Disorder, etc.

Bill Gates could be AS he could be anything, and he could just be another normal NT with eccentric behavior.
