This is silly. It's worse than some of the attitudes in the UK, where I keep hearing AS can get you incarcerated or involuntarily committed to an institution. Of course, those bogans in AU are not far removed from the UK...

I have always had problems balancing my interests.

Oh, you mean physically balancing. Not from AS, but for a time I had balancing due to MS. Not a problem now though.

I was a gifted kid, but I made a conscious effort to diversify my interests to avoid the "savant" path. Now I'm under 3 years from retirement with a guarantee I'll never be bored.
