Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What's your functioning level?

My parents were worried that I wouldn't survive going away to college, but I made it through just fine. So I guess I'm high functioning. But that doesn't mean I don't have days when I feel like I can't even function properly.

CORRECTION: I cast my vote of both my parents being in their forties, but I thought the question was asking how old they are now, not when they had me. The correct answer would be they both were in their twenties when they had me. Mom turned twenty-two a couple of months later, and Dad was go...

I'm on the spectrum, but my brother isn't. And for the record, he's younger than me, and I have no other siblings. As far as I know, I'm probably the only person on either side of the family who has Aspergers, though there might be a slight possibility of one of my mom's sisters and her mom having it.

Not interested whatsoever. I'm not even interested in adopting. Why? Let's just say while I'm able to tolerate and put up with kids, I'm not a very big fan of the little buggers.

When I tell people I'm a sophomore in college, they don't believe me. They're always like, "Are you sure? You look like you could still be in high school!" I just turned twenty! But I guess the fact that I'm only five foot-one and pretty thin kinda contributes to this. Then again, my mom got carded ...

I initially learned around five or six, and didn't really master the two-wheel technique until I was about eight or nine, maybe ten. But now I ride my bike around campus all the time now. It;s kinda hard to steer when you're on a sidewalk where people take up the entire width of the damn thing and w...

No. Even though I still have a little over a year before I'm legally allowed to drink, I'm not interested in actually drinking, and don't really plan on it.

Yes, I sure did. One of my high school band directors has a son with mild autism, and hearing all the stories of what he did scared me. I thought "There's no way I'm in the same club as this kid!" After a few years, and my symptoms taking a couple of steps backwards, I was finally able to move on an...

I don't understand how such a big country which such a big influence can have such stupid inhabitants like the one you described in your OP. God bless America (sarcasm). Because Americans are paranoid, narcissistic, blame-everyone-but-themselves type of people. I should know. I live there, and see ...

Oh my God, I'm practically blind without my glasses! I've been wearing glasses since seventh grade. My mom thought I was trying to get attention just because my dad and most of my friends were starting to get glasses, but then it turned out I really DID need them! So I'm very near-sighted and have a...

I'm probably the most directionally ret*d person I've ever known. Unless I've been down a certain route or at a certain place numerous times, I get lost very easily. But even then, I still can wander around and be all like, "Where the hell am I?" Thank God for the MapQuest app on my phone! That thin...

Normally, fire alarms don't bother me. However, at my dorm, they've been going off at least twice a month, and even went off three times in the same day!! :x I don't know about you, but the fire alarms going off three times in the same day should a serious wake-up call for the Fire Marshall and dorm...

"Autism Speaks: It's time to listen"? Well, shut the hell up and listen! Jenny McCarthy has absolutely NO right to speak for the autism community! More studies are coming out saying genetics play a big factor in a child having autism. So if you want to blame something for your kid's autism, blame ge...
